Command 'Sending e-mail' has failed.

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

Our customer is running a 2008 r2 standard server and Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Server Standard Latest Build: #17440. Acronis is configured with 3 simple backupplans which backups local disks to a vault.

The mailserver is managed by another company. Regarding there info the config is port 25 (default) and using no authentication/no SSL. When I try to send a testmail sometimes it works and sometimes not. No idea why that is:

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Notification from x.x.be
TEST MESSAGE
#####################################################################################
This e-mail message has been scanned for Viruses and Content and cleared by MailMarshal #####################################################################################

So the company that manages the mailserver declares the mailserver is okay. But every time the backup succeeded I get the message sending email is failed:

Command 'Sending e-mail' has failed.
Additional info:

Any idea what's the problem and how to solve this? I already tried to test with a new backup plan but got the same problem.

Kind regards,
Mark

 Hello Mark,

thank you for posting.

The error message "Fatal error has occurred while reading from the socket" can appear in following cases:

  • There is no connection with the SMTP server.
  • SMTP server refuses the connection from the machine that is sending the packet due to Firewall restrictions.

You can read more about this error in this KB article.

Since the connection works but not stably, possible reasons might be the following:

  • You check the test message from different servers, and not all of them are allowed connections with the SMTP server. Check the telnet connection to SMTP from such machines.
  • SMTP server name/address is not resolved correctly/stably from the machine and you have to check the network connection.

Let me know if this could resolve the issue or if you have additional questions.

Thank you,
