I would like to utilise Acronis Backup and Recovery with some type of Whole Disk Encryption on both the System Drive and the External Backup Drive. Historically I would use PGP however Google seems to think this might not be a good idea.

I understand the topic has been covered on the forums before, however nothing quite so recently so I thought I'd check whether anything has changed or whether there is other encryption software recommended for use with Acronis B&R?

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us! I appreciate you found time to open the thread regarding this question, and will be glad to shed the light onto the situation.

Unfortunately nothing changed in the compatibility between our backup products and encryption software: there still can be compatibility issues.

Acronis software and PGP also intefer with each other. You can find the details in this KB article.

Generally speaking: it's not a very good idea to use encryption with the backup software on the same machine, as it may result in technical difficulties.

You may try Checkpoint encryption software. We have tested it extensively, and it work pretty well with Acronis.
