Thread needs solution

We are using Acronis Backup on a Windows Server 2008 (64Bit) System.
When Backup is started the following entry is generated in the windows event list:
(the message is in german, because we are using german windows version)

Die Sicherheitsbeschreibung für Start und Aktivierung der COM-Serveranwendung mit CLSID
{F309F683-451E-4B7F-8FE8-CDAA83EE3DB3}

The CLSID is the one of Acronis VSS com class
What is the reason for this error entry?
How can we manage it so we do not get this error message?

Hello Heiner,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

To find the exact reason of this error message could you please provide us with the appropriate Acronis log file?

You can learn more on how to obtain the log files  in User Guide for Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server available here (chapter 6.1.3).

Thank you.

Hello Oleg,
we have already checked the acronis log file. It contains no errors, no warnings. All is lit in green.
But as soon as a backup tast is started the error I have written is attached to the windows event log. (system events)

I have uninstalled the windows server2008 Backup program. but this has made no difference.
The same error comes up when the acronis backup starts.
Your software developers shoud be able to give us an idea what to do to get around this problem!

Thank you

Heiner

I have a similar problem with F309F683-451E-4B7F-8FE8-CDAA83EE3DB3 and found this object in the DCOM Config.

The error I get is;

The launch and activation security descriptor for the COM Server application with CLSID
{F309F683-451E-4B7F-8FE8-CDAA83EE3DB3}
is invalid. It contains Access Control Entries with permissions that are invalid. The requested action was therefore not performed. This security permission can be corrected using the Component Services administrative tool.

I don't know what the correct settings are so please advise?

Have tried uninstalling and re-installing Backup & Restore 10 without any luck?

Hello Martin,

I have a clear understanding of the issue, I can help you.

To resolve the issue please make right-click on the object you have found -> Properties -> Security -> Customize -> Edit.  Add user Everyone for Launch and activation permissions, Access permissions and Configuration permissions. Set allow Local Activation and Local Launch for the user Everyone in all permissions.

The issue should be resolved.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Please let me know the results.

Thank you.

Done that but also note that I am getting a new warning in the event log since I re-installed B&R 10 - Timed out sending notification of target device change to window of "C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE"

There is a MS hotfix for this - WindowsServer2003-KB924390-x86-ENU.exe - do you this this is related?

Patch installed but still getting the VSS error;

The launch and activation security descriptor for the COM Server application with CLSID
{F309F683-451E-4B7F-8FE8-CDAA83EE3DB3}
is invalid. It contains Access Control Entries with permissions that are invalid. The requested action was therefore not performed. This security permission can be corrected using the Component Services administrative tool.

Do I need to install the snapAPI drivers and.or reinstall Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 Agent again?

I am having the same problem with DCOM F309F683-451E-4B7F-8FE8-CDAA83EE3DB3 access control errors in my event log. I am not sure if it is causing any harm since my backups do seem to be working but it sure makes me uneasy. Since this seems to be the Volume Shadow Copy Service generating the error I am assuming it is just continuing the backup without using it. It occurs every time a backup task starts. I am running Acronis 10 Workstation Locally on Windows 7 Ultimate 64.

The earlier post about changing the access permissions was incredibly vague not even mentioning what application to select in the component manager. I can't find any COM applications that seem to be related to Acronis and the permissions under "My Computer" for local launch and activation are allowed but not for remote. Is that the problem? Again the post is so vague it does not even mention the correct settings.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated since I do development and use the event log to view errors on a regular basis during my development efforts and weeding through these errors to locate the ones I am interested in is annoying and worrisome.

Thank you,
Andrew

@Andrew: "Acronis VSS com class" --> {f309f683-451e-4b7f-8fe8-cdaa83ee3db3}

but the suggested solution from Oleg didnt help at W2K3 with 11133 agent installed.

@Acronis: Is there a solution for this by now rather old "problem" ???

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your posts. I will do my best to assist you.

We are very close to releasing Update 2 for our software which will address the majority of the issues reported here. I noticed that most of you are still running an older build of our software, I would recommend updating it to the latest build which is 11345. You can always check the release notes for our software available here, to verify if the issues you were having are resolved.

Andrew Kunkel, Falk,

To resolve DCOM errors in the Windows Event Logs, please refer to the following article in our Knowledge Base.

Martin Schultz,

To resolve issues with - failed to create volume snapshot, I would definitely recommend the following article.

If the issue still persists and neither product update nor troubleshooting described in KB helps, please submit a support request with the following report.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
