Failed to check License Key. The Key is disabled

Thread needs solution

Hello,
About 2 weeks ago we had a lot of hardware drivers and firmware updates done to my clients server. We had a problem getting the drivers updated for the NIC in the server. We called Dell support and they connected to the server and had to manually remove the drivers from the OS and reinstall them. Everything on the server worked fine after that, except for the Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 backups. We are receiving the following errors when the scheduled backup runs:

Type: Error
Date and time: 5/19/2010 6:00:22 PM
Backup plan: GFS Backup

Fields: $module : C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\mms.exe
Message: Failed to run the backup and recovery engine.

When I try to create a new backup, I receive this error message:
"Failed to check the license key. The key is disabled"

I opened the license server and the keys look OK. I have one Advanced Server key and one Universal Restore key. Please help as we have not have a good backup for the last 2 weeks. Thanks in advanced.

Scott

Hello Scott,

Thank you for posting, I will be happy to assist you.

This issue occurs because Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 cannot reach the Acronis License Server. Please make sure that you can connect from the Acronis Management Console to the License Server. To do this, from the Acronis Management Console press Help->Change License.

You can also check the Acronis License Server service to see if it is started, on the machine where the License Server is installed. You can also check the following article for additional information.

If you run into any issues or have additional questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hello Anton,

Thank you for the response. I went to the Mangement Console and selected "Help > Change Licenses". Under the "Current Licenses" section it says "Loading" twice and thats it. It seems like it is having a problem reading the Licenses. All the Acronis software, including the Licensing Server, are on the same computer. All the Acronis's services are running. If I click on "Tools > Manage Licenses" it opens the License Manager OK. Then I click on "Manage License on Local Machine" and then "Manage Available Licenses". This shows me the Licenses that we have installed.

Here is another error I am receiving about every 30 minutes:

I just noticed something and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the problem, but when I clicked on "View License Information" it shows the Date aquired and a Renew Date.

Date Aquired is: 13.01.2010 (Im assuming January 13, 2010, which is round the time we installed the software)
Renew Date is: 01.05.2010 (again I'm assuming May 1, 2010)

I dont know if this means anything, but why is there a renew date that is 5 months after the install date?

Hello again, Scott,

Thank you for replying.

The error message: Failed to establish remote connection: Remote connections are disabled. can be caused by a number of issues. Please check this article for the solution. As for the "View License Information" tab, the Date Acquired means the date the agent was installed. The Renew Date should show the date when the agent communicated with the License Server. By default, it communicates every day, and if it fails to find a valid license, it either "grabs" a free one, or works for 30 days and then fails with the error message that you were initially getting.

In your case, it is very peculiar that the error - Failed to check  License Key appeared after 20 days. I would recommend that we further investigate this and provide you with a resolution.

Please submit a support request and ask for it to be escalated to our Expert team. Provide the following information:

1. AcronisInfo report.

2. Registry export of this string: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis

Let me know if you have additional questions or run into any other issues.

Thank you.

The message "Failed to establish remote connection: Remote connections are disabled" in this case is caused by license expiration - when license expires because License Server is unavailable, backup capability is blocked and remote connections are disabled. Is it possible that MAC address of your server changed after drivers reinstall?

Hello Roynal Smith,

Thank you very much for your question. I will be happy to assist you.

We have two versions of the software called Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 and Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Advanced version. You can check the differences in this article. The main key difference between the two, is that the Advanced version allows remote operations. For example, you can install an Advanced Agent on a remote machine and manage it (back it up) from a Management Console installed on another computer. The Acronis License Server was designed for the Advanced versions in order to track serial numbers usage across the installed agents. The Standalone version does not allow remote operations and it does not have a license server, it can only backup the machines on which it is installed.

While you can install an Advanced version on a desktop machine without a network, which will limit your remote functionality, the same is not recommended for a notebook, because the software will ask for a second license. Please read more about this specific issue in this article.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi!

I have same problem with
Acronis True Image Home 2011

but only it say that it is trial version when i tried to manage acronis secure zone.

Hello Andrei,

Thank you for posting. I will certainly help you with this issue.

To get it resolved I would recommend to download and install the latest build of Acronis True Image 2011 Home.

If it asks you for a serial number you can use the number that you can find in your Acronis web-account.

I would really appreciate if you could get back to me in case you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hello!

I have no problem with installing of it, but I have problem with Boot media, when I adding, kernel.dat and ramdisk.dat to bootcd with isolinux as boot loader. Same problem also with updated version of "Acronis Backup&Recovery Advanced Workstation Universal Restore", older version working without problems. I use to make mixed boot-cds to solve many types of problems. In my tests I have seen that no one Back-up application able to manage all partion and harddrive errors while backing-up, if one not able that other one can. It depends on environment that application runs in and back-up technic that it use to avoid hardware/reading disk/chipset communication fails.

All those programs complains on license key/trial limitations:

### "Acronis Backup&Recovery Advanced Workstation Universal Restore"
### older version working good. when I use new kernel.dat with older version then I cannot see mouse but I can use Tab to move between menus.

KERNEL /acro/kernel.dat
APPEND initrd=/acro/ardisk.dat vga=0x317 product=bootagent media_for_windows quiet acpi=off noapic

### "Acronis True Image Home 2011"
### I have no problems "Acronis True Image 2009 Home"

kernel /acro/kernel_.dat /s
append initrd=/acro/ramdisk_.dat ramdisk_size=30787 vga=0x314 quiet

Here some problems that I got with time.
I like acronis products but I think that new versions geting more problems with new user interface too. I mean "Acronis True Image Home 2011". I got always many problem with configuration of scheduler, every time getting errors, I solve that problem by reconfigure scheduler settings few times, one change in time to avoid errors. I recommed acronis to many people and helping to configure via remote help, when errors become pop-up then they think that is bad software that i recommed to them, some of them try to make own changes late and new+same problem comes....

I have all versions, from 8 and up, of acronis back-up software. DiskDirector leaks of funktionality and I use paragon for that, instead of upgrading older version. I hope that you will get rid of those problem in future versions.

....is it possible to get older versions of Acronis before version 8? I wish for my software collection .... "my odd hobby"....

Hello Andrei,

I appreciate you getting back to me.

We have recently changed the way our software can be started from a USB drive. You can either do it from within the Acronis program or by using the solution section of this KB article.

Thank you for your feedback about ATIH 2011. I will forward it to our program management team through our Customer Listening System.

I will also forward your request for the older versions to our Management team and get back to you as soon as I hear from them.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Error: Failed to establish remote connection: Remote connections are disabled. (repeatedly in log)
Product: Backup and Recovery 10

Hi all, I joined to post this in 2 threads - there's nothing I hate more than following a long thread describing my exact problem, to find no resolution after reading it - then finding another 6 threads on different forums with the exact same, unresolved conversation.
------------------------------------
Hi, I had this same problem described by the OP after moving a client's SBS2008 to a different site, and called one of our local Acronis resellers to check. The guy was very helpful and talked me through resolving it without a reinstall. Hope this helps someone :)

If I went into the program and connected to the machine, I could see my license when I browse to Tools > Manage Licenses - it showed up both as "available" and "used" when selecting from the view command. I went into the properties of this license, to the view that has fields for product name, host name, host address etc and could see that the last 2 fields said: Acquired - 13/07/2010 and Renew date - 07/09/2011 (the renew date being the exact date that these errors started in the log).

All I had to do was select the license and click "Revoke license" - which removed the license from the installation. Then, going back into the main screen, select Help > Change License. Click the link to "Get license from license server" and type the IP address of the server in the field provided and click "Display editions". If all is correct, the license details should pop up with a radio button and check box to select it. Once you press OK this should go back and re-activate the license and clear up the errors.

You may or may not need to restart the program and/or services for this to work again.
