Failed to create volume snapshot.

Thread needs solution

Hi ,

Not sure if anyone else has seen this but it appears that we are seeing an increasing number of backup failures across the many servers we support with 'Failed to create volume snapshot.' Most times re-running the backup after it has failed results in a proper backup. This is on the SBS version of the software mainly running on SBS 2008.

I'm also seeing more of the new installs where the Acronis VSS service is not installed .

When we are rolling out updates to in excess of 100 servers and begin to see these sort of issues it can cause us big problems as you begin to doubt the product and of course any failed backup can cause questions from customers on the suitability of the product.

We have been very pleased that in the later versions of version 10 the ability to fetch back the good old over write backup (from version 9) has made it back.

Any one elses opinions / experiences etc would be welcomed.

Thanks

Daniel

Unfortunately this error is very common, and there's no universal solution. Each situation should be investigated separately. I would suggest that you contact support directly with the issue description, and our tech specialists will be able to check each machine to find out the cause and make sure that won't happen again.

And meanwhile I would also advise you to check this KB article for the instructions: it contains the investigation and solution instructions for each possible cause, and it may help to solve the problem.
