Failed to run the backup and recovery engine

Thread needs solution

Dear Sir/Madam,

I've been struggling with the underdiscribed problem. We're working with AMS and there are 5 servers located in there, but there is just 1 server that won't backup. This is strange because all 5 servers backup from the same backup policy.
I already run AcronisReport.exe and attached the output file.

I hope you can help me solve this problem.

Kind regards,

Tjeerd Posthumus

Hello Tjeerd,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Most probably, the issue was caused by the conflict with the SQL Express VSS writer.

Disable the SQL Express VSS writer:

- Invoke Windows Services (Start-Run -> services.msc);

- Right-click on the SQL Server VSS Writer service and click Stop:

- Double click on the SQL Server VSS Writer service and set the Startup type to Disabled:

- Click OK.

Disabling the SQL Express VSS writer will not affect the product's performance. See also Microsoft TechNet Article: SQL Writer Service.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Without additional information I can’t be certain of the issue. Could you please provide us with the log file of the failed operation in .XML format?

- Launch the program;
- Connect Management Console to the Agent; Log;

- Click on the diskette icon Save all to file;
- Specify the location you want to save the file to;
- Attach the log file to your next post.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Same problem on SBS 2008 with ABR 10.0.11345.

See the attached logfile.

Can someone please help me getting out of this.

I'm not sure if this will help in anyone else's situation. However, in my particular case, this error appeared out of the blue one day. After reading all the posts, I determined that the issue was related to VSS. Sure enough, the Volume Shadow Copy service had stopped on the server I was backing up. I restarted the service and everything was fine.
