Failed to run the backup plan

Thread needs solution

Hi There,
I'm having problem with my Acronis since few days, i have read a lot on the Knowledge Base and nothing among the solutions written worked.

At first, i tried to access to my Vault, using administrator user and pwd, but the access was denied, even though the pwd is good. So i decided to recreate new Vaults and reconfigure the Backup plans and Task with these new vaults . Now i can access but when i want to run a backup, it fails with this error:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Failed to run the backup plan.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Details
Code: 589,895(0x90047)
Module: E:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\mms.exe
Message: Failed to run now: error occurred while enumerating the task.

Code: 589,834(0x9000A)
Message: Failed to convert: invalid task ID.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have downloaded the latest build of Scheduler (461), i have cleaned the files in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS\TasksStorage folder, but nothing's working.

Any idea on how to fix the problem?

Thx for your help!

Sounds like the task database has become corrupted.

Where is the vault stored?

What OS are you using?

Hello Jean-Yves Trudel and Colin!

Thank you for your comments, and for finding time to report about the issue. Colin, thank you for your kind help.

Jean-Yves, Colin is right, but also there can be several other reasons for this issue. It's highly possible that there was a mess in the tasks, and the Scheduler failed to assign them properly. As a workaround, please, follow the below instructions:

  1. Update Scheduler as mentioned in this article
    In case the issue remains:
  2. Download Acronis Scheduler Manager. Open command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd); run schedmgr.exe and issue the following command:
    task zap
This will erase all traces of the tasks.
  3. Reboot the machine
  4. Recreate the tasks

This should resolve the issue faced.

Should it remain, please gather Acronis Info and contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Thx Guys for taking time to answer me.
Since it was working fine before, data base corruption seems to be a possibility.

Question for you, if i zap the tasks, do i loose all of the job i have created? (What, Where, How to backup...)

Thx

Jay

Unfortunately Jean-Yves, you will lose all the jobs.

There is one 'trick' you could try before resetting the database, which is to edit each task you have. It doesn't matter what you edit, so long as you make a minor change to a task, save it, then re-edit it back to what you want and then save it again.

This will reset part of the database as you'll see, because all your tasks will revert back to 'never been run' status. If that doesn't work then there is nothing for it but to try Yana's list.

Hi,
I tried to edit the How to backup, made a small change and tried to run the backup, and now i got this error:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Failed to run the task.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Code: 589,936(0x90070)
Module: E:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\mms.exe
Message: Failed to run the task: error occurred while trying to run the task.

Code: 593,138(0x90CF2)
Message: Scheduler has received a request from a user who does not have enough privileges.

I'm running everything with administrator, so it should not be a problem... :O(

Interesting, in Widnows Services, what log on is the scheduler using and in Windows Management is there an Acronis User and are they and you a member of the Backup Users Group?

Hi Guys,
It's working now. Since i didn't had a lot of time to fix the problem, here is what i did:

-Uninstalled the actual version
-Installed the new build: Build 12497
-Recreated the backup plans and tasks

Now it's working.

Thx for all your help!!

Jay

Hi Yana,

I have now seen several mentions of running Acronis Schedule Manager via the command prompt and executing the task zap command. However I am not really impressed with the way it will wipe out absolutly all tasks I have created. Are there any other commands available or an alternative way to repair any corruptions in the database?

I have a corrupt task that has been running for over a month now that I can not stop or delete. Have tried a few things including stopping and starting all the Acronis Services, even re-booting the Acronis Management Server and the server the task is running on does not help.

I know that running task zap will do the trick however considering I have quite a complex backup consisting of around 50 custom backup tasks running across 20 Servers (combination of virtual and physical) I think blowing all that away for the sake of one corrupt task is an unacceptable solution. My manager would have a fit if I had to waste several days setting everything up and testing it again. Would be much better if you could tell task zap to just kill off the one specific task you were having problems with.

Also if I was to use the task zap method and recreate everything. What would happen to all my existing 12TB of backup archives in the central vault. Can these still be used with the new tasks I would have to setup again?

Thanks, Lon

Hello McColls IT Admin,

Thank you for your questions! Actually in the newest update the tasks don't get deleted, they just require reactivation.

However if you would like to delete just one task you can surely do it by following these instructions:

  1. Run schedmgr.exe and issue this command
    get list
It will provide you with the list of tasks you have
  2. Find the one you need to delete and enter the following command:
    task [task_number]
This will get you to this task menu
  3. As soon as you are in the task menu, enter
    Delete
and the task will be removed

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Thanks Yana,

Made a few test tasks to experiment with and those instructions worked well. I then deleted my corrupt task ok however the task is still in the tasks list on the Acronis Management Server and is still in the running state. I rebooted the server and its still there. I have been back into schedmgr.exe and there are no more traces of the offending task buts its still running even after the reboot.

Any idea why its still visible in AMS? Could I have a database corruption?

Thanks, Lon
