How to distribute "canned" back-up system
Hello. My company is committed to using Acronis Backup and Restore Workstation with the UR option as our recommended solution for remotely located employees who are not in a position to back-up to a server. We have dozens of such employees. We are not forcing this on these users; it is going to be adopted on a "pull" basis, and we will purchase licenses to meet demand. I want to create a very simple standard back-up plan that uses two alternating external hard drives to back-up everything on a scheduled weekly basis. One of those devices is to be rotated off-site weekly. I would very much like to "can" the install of the software and the back-up plan so that the user needs to do and configure as little as possible. My experience is that the probability of a user actually backing up diminishes geometrically as the effort increases. Ideally I'd like to have an unattended ABR install script on the external drive(s) so that the first time the drive is connected to the computer, the script autoruns via inf, and creates the default back-up plan as well as installs the software (ABR 10 & UR). It must either prompt the user for the correct s/n or read it from a separate file. This scripted install would need to detect an existing ABR install on the computer and not run on that condition. If I need to do this by preparing separate install media (DVD) with the install files and script, that is OK, although the external HD itself is my first choice for this. I would like to be able to implement this under both Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7, but if I can only do it under Windows 7, I can live with that. Is it possible to do what I have described with using the functions included in ABR & UR? ? If not, do you have an alternative suggestion that would meet the same goals (or most of them)? Many thanks in advance.
