how to format a lto 3 tape / wie formatiere ich ein LTO 3 band

Thread needs solution

Hello,

i'm looking for a possibility to format a lto 3 tape. We are using "Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 - Workstation" and cannot find a solution to format a lto 3 tape with acronis.

Is there a possibilty to format a lto 3 tape with Acronis at all?
Is there another program (Freeware?!), that could help me?

Best regards
André

Hello Andre!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! I understand your concern and will be glad to help you.

In Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Workstation Standalone we access the tapes directly, so each time you insert it, you should receive a notification, that all existing data on it will be erased. Thus the tape is formatted every backup.

I will be glad to provide you with more information and the step-by-step instructions for your scenario. Could you please let me know the details? Don't hesitate to let me know in case you have any technical issues.

Should you have any further questions or concerns - feel free to share them with us!

Thank you!

Hello Yana

Could you also send me the infos?

Hello Michael!

Thank you for your question!

Since you're using Advance version of Acronis Backup and Recovery Workstation, you have 2 options for backing up the target machine:

  1. Backup to the locally attached tape (see chapter 2.9, p. 42 in the User's Guide)
  2. Use tape libraries (see chapter 4.1.3)

In the second case you can format the drive (if needed) simply by setting the pool as free.
There can be several reasons why you cannot access the tape, starting from OS (we access the tapes mostly through RSM and some OSes don't support it) and finishing with connection errors. So this situation requires investigation. Could you please gather the following diagnostic data:

  1. Operating System
  2. Tape location
  3. Acronis Info from the problem machine
  4. Logs according to this article

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Many thanx, the problem was the installed Symantec Backup Exec.
I deinstalled it and now the Drive was found.

I will try the other features of the Software and maybe i will ask again ;-)

Many thanx,
michael
