Howto use Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 images with VMware converter 5
Hi Folks,
over the weekend I could gain some experience with Acronis B&R 10 and the new VMware Converter 5.
First I want to tell you, YES, you can use/converte Acronis B&R 10 images with vmware converter!
Scenario
For the virtualization of a domain controller I decided to make a cold backup with acronis an convert the Image with vmware converter 5 into a virtual machine. But the converter fails to load/handle the image.
After some time I found out how to get it running.
1. Make a Image e.g. with the Bootmedium and select the field to get "moveable" Image
2. Create the image to the backup medium by using a file name "blablaimage".tib but take care on to write ".tib" uncapitalized!
The Problem of Acronis B&R 10 is that it stores the names with ".TIB" (capital letters) which the vmware converter do not unterstand. Stupid bug!
So if you already have an Image which is not running with vmware converter just rename the extention of the file from ".TIB" to ".tib"
With Acronis B&R 11 this trick will not work, I think Acronis changed the image layout with Version 11
Have fun!
Swen
