make xp sp3 initial disks for security

Have sorted company departments into 4 major categories. Was thinking I could create a virgin install of windows xp for each department so if I lost any workstation due to hardware failure or infection etc I could simply wipe disk and install virgin disk with apps for any workstation in any department.
1. Is this possible.
2. Is this good idea.
3. What Acronis stuff would I need?
4. What about minor hardware differences on workstations?
