Migrating to Dell T710 Server need to know if Acronis B&R Server supports new PERC raid

Thread needs solution

My Dell 1600SC server has reached 5 years of age, last week 2 Scsi drives failed and I am beginning to realize we are approaching the end of life for this machine. I am very interested in Dells new T710 server which uses either the Perc 6/i (3gb/s) or the new Perc H200 (LSI's 9200 series with 6gb/s). I would like to use the latter as it is the new SOTA (state of the art). I would like to Universal Restore my OS to the new machine, but would like to know if B&R universal restore will work with the new Raid controler. I own Acronis B&R SBS server.

Thanks

I am still waiting.

By the way
The PERC RAID controllers are based on the LSI 9200 series.
Hope this helps
Still waiting for an answer.

So frustrated by the lack of response from the forums I call tech support and am advised I will have an answer in 24 hours. As my server is failing and I need to prepare for the upgrade.

After no response in 48 hours I return a call to tech support. Despite giving the support # and speaking to the same tech, he obviously has no answer.

I ask the situation to be elevated, another tech (based in the same foreign country) is also of little use, and tells me he does not know which RAID cards are supported by Acronis B&R Server. That I should build a Bart PE restore disk and load the windows drivers from Dell directly to the Bart PE.

Now I am wondering why I didn't purchase Paragon Server restore software based on WinPE which allows you to "inject" the driver directly. I don't have the time, or the will, to fool around with BartPE.

Acronis has hit an all time low.
Is it possible to get a refund for Acronis B&R SBS. I am very dissappointed.

Hello UDaMan,

Thank you very much for your posts. I would like to apologize for the delay and the inconvenience that you had to go through, in order to get your questions answered.

Unfortunately at the moment our rescue media does not support LSI 9200 series, however, we will be very happy to add the specific drivers to it. For that, we would really appreciate if you could e-mail us some diagnostic information. Please kindly let me know if you would like to work with us on this.

As a workaround, I recommend using WinPE. I found your support case submitted today, where you mention an error message:

Creation has failed.

Error code: 0x6
token = "310F6720-2FF2-46A9-9187-852E54E44D70"
Tag: 0xCA94545CFAF09EF7
Access is denied

If I am not mistaken, this error message indicates that you tried using WinPE 3.0. At the moment WinPE 3.0 (Windows 7) is not supported until update 2 for ABR 10 SBS is released. I suggest downloading AIK for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 (PE 2.1) and using that instead.

For your own convenience, after you have created a WinPe disc, you may also refer to this article from our Knowledge Base that explains how to recover with Acronis Universal Restore.

I have taken ownership of your current two open cases so that I can continue taking care of any issues that you may have. I am also working closely with our experts and our developers on this in order to expedite the resolution of this issue.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you at the moment.

A voice in the wilderness!

Finally, I have someone who seems to understand the problem.

I would be willing to assist in the addition of drivers to the rescue media. I prefer it to WinPE which is painfully slow to boot.

The Web page for the Dell drivers for the T710 is here:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PWE_T710&os=WNET&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Drivers for Windows and Linux are listed.

The T710 and R710 contain the new 6gb/sec RAID controllers PERC (H200, H700, H800) which are the LSI series 9200

Dell will eventually phase out the PERC6i RAID

As far as the WinPE issue.

I can create a WinPE disk with my Acronis B&R SBS , but the B&R workstation version fails here:

After this screen the error message appears. I am using the same WinPE (2.1) Windows AIK on both the Workstation and SBS, and I am using the same version of Acronis B&R build 11345

The workstation is Win7 64 bit, the SBS is Win2003

I do not know why one works and one doesn't

Hello UdaMan,

Thank you for your post.

I will need to get back to you from the case about the new RAID because we need additional information from you.

I will also need some more information about the WinPe creation failure when you try to do it with Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Workstation. I shall contact you about that as well from the other case.

As I mentioned before, I have taken ownership of both cases, we need 1 case per issue I am afraid.

Thank you very much for your patience.

Anton,
Thanks for your persistence. The iso file you sent did indeed have the drivers for the Perc H700. Using the bootable CD I was able to transfer SBS 2003 to new hardware without a glitch. Using Universal restore I was able to load the RAID drivers, and chipset drivers so the OS started up without a htich.

Thanks so much.

Hello UDaMan,

Thank you for your reply and I am very happy that this specific issue has been resolved.

If you need any help or if you have other questions please let me know.

Thank you.

I hate to hijack your thread but I am actually curious about the same issue - same server and hardware to be exact. Can Anton send me the same iso file or just tell me how to add the drivers for the PERC H700 to the rescue media?

Thanks in advance!

I am also in need of rescue media that supports LSI 9211. Please advise.

EDIT: Boot media from build #12457 DOES support LSI MegaRAID 9211-8i [confirmed]

Yes boot media with the last 3 versions of Acronis B&R support the RAID in the Dell/ LSI 9200 series
