Mount Backup and Recovery SBS edition TLB files on Win XP machine

Thread needs solution

I would like to be able to mount TIB files created by Backup and Recovery SBS edition on our server on a windows XP laptop so they can be accessed offsite whilst travelling.

I have Home edition on the laptop. When I try to mount a TIB created by home edition it works fine, but if I try to mount a TIB file created by SBS edition I get a file corrupted error.

The files mount fine on the SBS machine so aren't corrupted.

I read a post that said I could install Acronis Console on the XP machine and then I would be able to mount the SBS edition TIB files. I tried this but the installation failed with an error.

What software do I need to install on the XP machine and do I need a new license for it?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Hello Jonathan,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your post. I will definitely help you with this issue.

You will need to install Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 SBS Edition Management Console on your XP machine in order to mount SBS backups. It does not require a license.

The installation of the Console fails on the XP machine because of incompatibilities between different timounter drivers used in the Home product and the SBS version. The timounter driver is responsible for opening backup files. If I am not mistaken, the version of Acronis True Image Home that you are using will not support backups created with ABR 10. You can check this article for additional information.

I would really appreciate if you could send me an .msi log from the failed management console installation, and if the timounter conflict is indeed the cause of the issue, there is little we can do except to keep one of the programs on your XP machine. You can also install a trial version of Acronis True Image 2011 Home and check how it performs, it is compatible with ABR 10 backups.

Looking forward to your reply and if you have additional questions please let me know.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply Anton.

Is there a small program that can be downloaded and installed to allow me to mount these files? I am travelling now so am reluctant to download the full R&B install at 357MB or the True Image Home 11 at 159 MB. is there a third party product?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Hello Jonathan,

Thank you for replying and you are most welcome.

There is no third party product or a smaller alternative to Acronis True Image 2011 Home installation file. I am sorry for any inconvenience.

However, you can try removing Acronis True Image Home from your machine and re-attempt the installation of the ABR 10 Management Console. I will follow-up with a private message with a unique download link for the Management Console.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
