Problem building bootable media with both Backup & Recovery and Disk Director on it

Thread needs solution

Hi folks:

I have both Backup & Recovery 10, and Disk Director 11 installed on the same computer. I am trying to create a bootable disk with both products on it, which the bootable media builder program implies it's going to do (it lists both products on the screen where it says what it's going to install). However, only Disk Director ends up on the media. I'm wondering if it's because Disk Director was the last product installed. Has anyone been able to do this? I'm trying to install it in a Win 7 PE environment.

I have exact the same problem. It only happens with WinPE, not with Linux boot disk. But i want to have the WinPE version because on one of my computers the Linux Boot CD doesn't work.

I have issues with the linux environment on this computer as well. As a last resort I guess I could uninstall Disk Director, make another recovery disk with just Backup and Recovery, and then reinstall Disk Director. I'd have to have two recovery disks, unless I want to try to figure out what directories and registry settings each of the two products uses on their own recovery disk, and try to merge the two on to create a single recovery disk. I'm not sure it's worth that much trouble though versus just having two disks.

DD11 and ABR10 is a known problem.

Acronis are aware of it. Hopefully it will be fixed in the forthcoming DD11adv and maybe in an update to DD11.

Hello all!

Thank you for finding time to open the thread!

Colin, thank you for your valuable assistance!

Guys, I'm very sorry for you've faced this issue. We are aware of it, and our Development team are working on the fix, but unfortunately we do not know when it will be released.

The issue is caused by the differences of the media builders in both products. Acronis Disk Director 11.0 was modified and appears to be incompatible with ABR builder. We have the instructions for the workaround: building a WinPE or BartPE media, feel free to contact our Support regarding it directly.

I entirely understand how inconvenient and upsetting the situation can be. I may assure you that we're doing our best to fix the inconvenience in the shortest timeframes.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

People are still having the same problem and Acronis are assuring us that they are doing their best to fix the problem - However please note that the previous comments were made in 2009 and we are now definately near the end of 2010 with still no results. Are acronis the same as Microsoft ignore your customers once you have their money?

Hello Eugene!

Thank you for your comment and for sharing your opinion with us.

You frustration is entirely understandable. The thing is that this issue appeared only after ADD11 release, which was announced recently. As I've already mentioned here, the glitch is related to the incompatibility of the Media Builders, which should be resolved shortly. We entirely understand how inconvenient the situation is for our Customer, and Development are doing their best to have it fixed.

Since you've mentioned that the issue is present since Acronis True Image Home 2009 release - which was long ago before the Acronis Disk Director 11 - I assume you're refering to some separate issue, which looks similar to this one. I've carelly checked our internal resources, but couldn't find any known issue that would match your description. We actually had never faced Media Builder compatibility issues before.

I would appreciate if you could either point me onto the issue description on Forum or provide us with the details of the problem. It is very important for us, since we aim to produce most reliable and stable products, and every technical issue, glitch or inconvenience should be fixed.

Thank you for your cooperation. Should you have any additional concerns or feedback - please, share them with us, we will be glad to address every question.

Thank you!

Acronis released a new build of DD11 Home dated November 3, 2010 and I installed it. I still cannot use Acronis Media builder to correctly build the Linux based bootable media on a Flash drive. I could create bootable CDs (but not with both ABR 10 and ADD 11 - the media builder offers to include both, but the resulting CDs menu does not work.)  After too much time was being [wasted] trying things and during calls with Acronis, I resorted to using the GRUB4Dos technique to be able to boot downloaded ISO files directly from a USB Flash drive. Did not take *too* much effort to follow instructions and figure out the method.

As for Eugene Meenan's reference 2 posts up about this problem going on since 2009, I think he mistakenly confused the original posters Join date (2009-12-01) and took it to be the posting date (2010-09-03).

Although I should start a new thread now, I just wanted to mention I have Acronis Backup and Recovery Workstation 10 (build 1249) installed on a Windows 7 Pro 32-bit computer, and also had installed Disk Director 11 Home.  ABR will run, but trying to run DD 11 just crashes.  I'm going to completely uninstall both products and try again from scratch, after (hopefully) cleaning out residual traces of the programs, and see if I can get them to coexist.  Just had wondered if anyone else had problems with either program malfunctioning when both were installed (or if installation of one after the other failed.)

Just to note ABR 10 and DD 11 still appear to be incompatible. Original installation order was DD 11, then ABR 10. This caused installation issues with ABR 10. Having worked around those ABR 10 appears to run OK but DD 11 is broken. I have a support ticket open on this, just thought I'd update the topic. Currently my workaround was to remove both, then reinstall ABR 10 as it has DD Lite.

@Lasouris,

What builds of ABR10 and DD11 are you using?

I have DD11 Advanced (as can be seen from my signature) and it is working with ABR10.
