Recovery of archive files

Thread needs solution

Hope someone can answer this basic question - I am a novice in this:

Backup created 15 files (original1.tlb to original15.tlb). I am trying to restore to a new computer. In the window asking the archive to restore, it seems I can select only one of those original files. Question is do I select original1 or original15 to be restored to ensure that all 15 are restored?

Or does it make any difference?

I want to restore all 15 tlb files.

I apologise for elementary question; the Acronis help windows not very clear on this.

Thanks and blessings to soul who answers this.

The reason you got 15 files is probably because the drive they're on is formatted as Fat32. You need only select the first one for the restore. The software will know there are other files in the total backup.

But more importantly, do you know that to restore to different hardware you have to use and add-on called Universal Restore?

Thank you so much.

I backed up to an external drive from a dell desktop. I now want to restore to a laptop. So for that restore do I need to use the Universal Restore? (I have version 10).

Again thank you.

Hello Novice in Phil and DwnNDrty!

Thank you for opening the thread and many thanks to DwnNDrty for his valuable comment!

I fully agree with DwnNDrty comment and just would like to shed some light to the Acronis Universal Restore question.

Dear Novice in Phil, since you are recovering onto the dissimilar hardware (desktops and laptops usually uses different chipsets) you will anyway need Acronis Universal Restore as far as you need to add the drivers during the process of recovery, otherwise your system will not boot.

Unfortunately there is no Acronis Universal Restore available for Acronis True Image Home 10, but it is present in the latest version of Home products Acronis True Image Home 2010 in the Plus Pack add-on. I cannot provide you with the free upgrade, but should you decide to upgrade I would appreciate if you could let me know so that I could assist you with this question.

I would also advise you to take a look at this detailed Acronis Universal Restore Guide with step by step screenshots, you may find it useful. Please note that prior to restoring to new hardware you need also to contact the vendor of the motherboard (or other mass storage device - e.g. SCSI disk controller) and request the latest drivers for this mass storage device. Then please unpack them from the package they are sent to you, so that the drivers were in .inf and .oem format.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
