Restore 1 image to multiple system in the same workgroup/domain

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Universal Restore.
I have 10 new laptops to configure. I want to build one, create a backup image and deploy it to the other laptops using the Bootable recovery media. I am not worried about windows/office licensing because I am using molp. I noticed that I have the option to change the SID when restoring.
If I do this am I going to have problems in an AD environment? Do I need to run sysprep?
Thank you for your help.

Andrei.

Hello Andrei!

Thank you for bringing up this question, I will be glad to help you.

First of all I would like to mention, that according to the Acronis License Policy you need 1 license per 1 machine you are going to backup or restore, so your scenario may be expensive a little, and I would suggest you to use Acronis Snap Deploy for PC for the scenario specified. It requires a license only for the deployment, and provides you with the ability to change not only SID, but the machine name, create Users for it, add the machine to the Domain or the Workgroup, etc. It also allows you to recover the image created to the target machines via network simultaneously - it saves a lot of time since you do not need to run to every machine with the bootable CD... It has Acronis Universal Deploy (similar to Universal Restore) as well.

I would advise you to take a look at the User's Guide for more details.

Also I would like to assure you that should you change the SID when restoring the machine there will be no issues with AD environment and actually it is not required to run the sysprep, though you can definitely use it.

Should you have any further questions or face any issue - just post a comment here, and we will definitely help you.

Thank you!
