Restore to larger drive

Thread needs solution

I read most of the posts. I'm using home 2010 and am trying to restore an 80GB drive backup to a new 500GB drive.
I followed the suggestions and enlarged the partition during the restore. This is about my 5th time trying this.
The restore switched to sector by sector after enlarging the partition but in the end the system still reports only the original 80GB partition with the remainder unused.
I bought ACRONIS for this very capability and am very disappointed that they don't deliver on advertised features.

Hello Uwe,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Most probably, the source partition contains file system errors or bad blocks. This prevents Acronis True Image Home 2010 from recovering the backup to a larger hard drive. Could you please check the disks for errors?

- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
- Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r"
where DISK is the partition letter you need to check. Please note, that
checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

After that recreate the backup file and restore the archive again. if the issue remains, please download Acronis Report utility available here and run it, create a report and attach the file to your next post. Please compress the Acronis Report output file into an archive (e.g. with WinZip) and attach to your message by browsing for the archive.

This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.
