Restore TIB to Raw VHD - Shrinking volume size upon restore

Thread needs solution

Need to virtualize a server that has a 250GB C drive. Only need 150GB on the VM for the C. Want to restore a backup (TIB) that contains the MBR and C partition to a Raw 160GB VHD. I can get Acronis to recognize the disk, but it only reads it as 127.5GB and will not allow me to select it.

Does anyone know if this is even possible? I have tried this with version 9.1 Enterprise, 10, 11 and 2013 (trial). I did a TIB to VHD conversion origianlly, and it just blue screens upon startup. so this was the next step.

Thanks for any suggestions/resolutions.

Hello Lawrence Slifkin,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

For Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, you can use this article and for Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 you can use this article from our knowledge base. If you want to recover the archive into an existing virtual machine, you need to use Acronis Universal Restore in order to get the right drivers and the restored machine bootable. Otherwise you need a Windows start medium to re-create the MBR. See this article from our knowledge base.
