restore to vm does not work

Hello Forum-Users,

I am using Acronis Backup & Restore 10 update 3 (Build 10.0.12705 installed on Windows XP SP3, run as Admin) and try to restore a backup of a (physical) W2k3 Server to vm.
I do not own a serial for universal Restore (!) , i though i try to get it work aufterwords with the VMWare standalone Converter and then transfer the vm to our ESX4.

The Restore starts, but less than 20 Sec i get an errror and it stops.
There's nothing to find about the EventIDs in the KB
( 0x00DA0007+0x0000FFF0 / 0x00728014+0x00DA0008 )
See errormessages at the end of my post.

I even try to boot with the bootCD (as ISO) in a vm and than restore the backup. But in this case nothing happens. The Restore starts, but even after hours, it still stand at the beginning.

Does anybody has an Idea what goes wrong ? Does anybody knows a way how to restore the Backup to ESX?

Thank you for posting. I will do my best to help you.

I really appreciate your detailed description of the issue. According to the Windows logs, our software has problems locating this file: BackupAndRecoveryService.exe

We are still not sure what causes this issue but I can suggest the following workaround:

1. Create a new folder.

2. Locate this file: C: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ Acronis \ BackupAndRecoveryAgent \ BackupAndRecoveryService.exe and place it in the new folder.

3. Open the registry and find this key: x64 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Acronis\Schedule2\Substitute

or x86 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\Schedule2\Substitute

4. Find the BackupAndRecoveryService value, right click on it and select modify. In the Value data: field change the path to the path of the new folder that you created.

This workaround should take care of this issue.

As for the bootable media recovery, are you using the latest build of the bootable media? Where is the backup stored? Could you try changing its location please?
