Restoring a TIB image to a Virtual PC VM
Hey folks,
I have a ~50g TIB file I created with True Image 2009 of a full workstation that ran Vista. The image contains three volumes -- the OS partition, a diagnostic partition, and FAT16 partition.
I am playing around with attempting to restore this to a Virtual PC VM, but have not been successful so far.
I have tried restoring the entire disk, but I get a warning in the logs that states:
"Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Universal Restore skipped because the operating system that is being processed (Windows Vista) is not supported by the target platform."
I take this to mean that Windows Vista is not supported by Virtual PC. But, uh, it is. Subsequently, the created virtual machine will not boot. It proceeds through BIOS, goes to a black screen, then restarts.
I've also tried restoring the volumes, setting the O/S partition as the active. (Actually, it's marked as active by default.)
Interestingly, when restoring the image as "Volumes," all three partitions want drive letters. I've not tried leaving those letters alone, rather reassigning the O/S as C and the others with no drive letters.
Should this all work? What options should I use to successfully create a Virtual Machine. I have tried to create a VMWare Workstation VM, but while that produces no errors, I don't have VMWare Workstation to test. :-) Ultimately, I'd like to see if I can get this to work with VPC.
Thanks!
