Retention Rules not working

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone

I was hoping someone could help me with this issue, I have Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 and run a full backup each day but I have also set Retention Rules to delete backups older than 3 days but after 5 days I am needing to go in and manually delete backups because they are not being removed.

The backups are made to an external drive and do backup without issue but the issue is they are not removed and because of the size of the backups they are filling the drive.

I am using Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 (build 11.0.17437)

I hope I have provided enough information on this I have also attached a screen print of the retention rule setup.

Hoping someone can help me with this issue.

Hi Aaron,

welcome to Acronis Forum!

I will be glad to assist you.

As far as I understand, you are using simple backup scheme, which creates full backups on workdays. You set up retention rule "Delete backups older than…3 days" but it doesn't function.

Such issues are in most cases system specific and should be investigated on case by case basis. So for closer investigation I suggest you contacting Acronis Support. For you support options you can refer to this handbook.

As a workaround you can use Custom backup scheme, so you will be able to choose other retention rules.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you.

Hi Anna

Thank you for replying, yes thats right I am currently using the Simple Backup Scheme but I will try using the Custom Backup Scheme from tonight and see if that makes any difference and will post up over next few days the results.

Hi Anna

This doesn't seem to have worked. I have tried this over the last week and twice have had to go onto the backup folder and delete older backups. I have looked at todays backup folder and it hasn't removed a file from 4 days again even though the retention rules are set to delete backups older than 3 days.

I have the same issue, have you found a solution? I believe maybe it might be a share / folder permission issue?

I am sorry but I haven't found a solution this is still happening, I had to login at the weekend to clear space on the hard drives because they filled up again.

Hello Aaron, Sarven,

I suggested you to set up a custom backup scheme, since you can choose different retention rule.

For instance please try option "Number of backups in the archive exceeds..."

In some cases it can helpful. But if no retention rules work for you, most probably it is a system specific issue. That is why I suggested you contacting support team.

Thank you.

I will try the option "Number of backups in the archive exceeds" and will post up how I have got on, if this doesn't work as suggested I will contact the support team.

Thank you, Aaron! I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

I am also having this particular issue. However I noticed out of the 3 tasks which all using Simple backup scheme,
only 1 of the task Retention Rules not working. I checked on the logs for the 2 tasks that worked, the log files
indicated Replication/cleanup will run after the backup completed. For that particular task that doesn't work,
no indication that Replication/cleanup was started or run. I have made changes to the retention days and saved
the task, let me see whether it does help instead of using Custom backup scheme.

Hi I am still receiving this error and I have tried all of the above.

I will contact Acronis support and see if we can get this resolved

I have the same issue with Acronis 11 build 11.0.17437
none of my older backups are removed and the Retention rule under Tasks | Details appears as Schedule:Manual

so how can I enable it to be automatic?

thanks

John

Me too, having those problems with different customers with Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5 (11.0.17440). All are using QNAP-NAS for backup. If one will choose the cleanup task manually erverthing is working fine but ONLY THEN.

I have seen a lot of people having problems with replication / cleanup tasks but no answer from acronis how to fix this. My problem is similar to

https://forum.acronis.com/es/forum/39940

but there is no solution even as it is marked as solved...... Acronis please fix this ASAP. It cannot be that we have to use DelAge32-Batch files in a professional software.

Thx for your quick reply

Does your setup matches conitions in https://forum.acronis.com/forum/55594 (simple scheme, retention configured later, separately from plan creation)?heck the solution from that thread.
