Startup issues after installing Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Windows
Hi,
I just downloaded a trial of Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Windows. Operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2 (Enterprise Edition).
As far as I could tell from the documentation, Windows Server 2008 R2 is supported by Backup and Recovery 10. I nstalled it without issues and ran a back up of a drive. The drive I was backing up was a 2.5" IDE drive that I was accessing through a USB enclosure. The destination drive is a SATA drive that I was accessing through another USB enclosure. I don't usually use this computer for running backups, and I was on the road and needed to backup this IDE drive.
Wednesday night is when I ran the install. I setup the backup and went to sleep after the backup was about 50% complete. The next morning, my computer was in a failed restart loop. WS08 R2 hangs on startup and displays:
"Preparing to configure windows"
"Do not turn off your computer"
After a few minutes the computer restarts and continues in the same loop.
Unless this issue is from a windows update that installed itself over night and forced a restart, it seems that something related to Backup & Recovery, or the backup I was making, caused this issue.
Currently, I am unable to start windows. I've tried using last known configuration, doesn't work. I've tried booting in safe mode, I get the same issue. In either case, I get the "preparing to configure windows message" and then it crashes. I can load the repair utility, but I don't know what commands to use to try and repair.
Are there known problems when working with a USB drive in Backup & Recovery 10? From what I explained, is there any reason to believe that Backup & Recovery caused the problem, and is there anything I can do to recover from it?
Does anyone known if there are command line commands I can use to do startup repair from the WS08R2 repair console?
Thanks!
