VM restore issue
HI
I downloaded demo of Advanced Srv Virtual Edition which has no Univesral Restore
I have successful created a backup of VM on ESX.
When i restored this backup to a new VM it show me bsod 0x7b when windows(2k8) starts up.

I read that before restoration i must install scsi driver with universal restore, but i cant do it because there is no universal restore in demo.
what i can i do?
Is there any way to backup & recover VMs without universal restore?
I still have not decided to buy or not, and I will not buy this product unless i will sure that it suits us.

Hello Alexey,
Thank you for your patience.
I have additional information about this issue. It is caused by a compatibility problem of ABR10 with VMware ESXi 4.1 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
However, we have a workaround which you can check in this Knowledge Base article: Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server Virtual Edition: Windows Server 2008 R2 Virtual Machine Recovered from a Backup BSODs
If you need additional assistance, please let me know.
Thank you.

Hello Larry,
Thank you for posting. I will certainly help you with your question.
No, I do not think so. Our Testing lab was able to replicate the results using ESXi 4.1 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
If you need additional assistance, please let me know.
Thank you.

Hi Anton,
I did a test restore today of an imaged VM to a new VM on the same host. It was a Win2008 R2 64bit system that contains an SQL Express DB. The restore completed and the server was able to boot (it was removed from the network when booted into Windows) and appears to OK. So I am comfortable that other flavors of Windows OS's will restore properly. F-Y-I, I used the 12703 build for the media restore.
I too would be interested in being informed when a fix/patch/update for this issue is available for ESX 4.1 as I will be upgrading my ESX hosts later this year to version 4.1.
Thanks
Larry

I am running the latest verions of Backup and Recovery - Virtual Edition. I just tried a restore, using universal restore, to a new VM and getting the same error. Fortunately, I was able to fix my problem server and no longer needed to recover, but this could have have gotten very, very, ugly!!!
I'm running ESX 4.1 as well.
