Windows domain´s users can't logon after restoring domain controller system image

Thread needs solution

Hi, I have a Windows 2003 based domain. I use Acronis Echo server to make a system image backup. The image is more than a month old.
When I restore the server image, the server works ok, but the users can't logon, the system shows a message saying that the domain controller is blocked or can´t be find.
If I logon into the user computer locally, and join the pc to the domain again, it works correctly.

My questions are:
Old server images can't be functionally after a restauration?
How old can be these images to work?
How can I avoid this, its possible?

Thanks for all.

For a domain controller you have to follow a special procedure for restore. The backup should not be older than the tombstone period set in active directory (default at least 60 days, but can be modified). Pls. see this for details:

If the server was a domain controller only with no additional functions and you have more than one DC its probably better to remove the old one from AD and install a new one. Before doing a restore check the operation master roles and make sure any of them was assigned to the failed DC. If so, assign the role to a functioning DC.
If this was the only DC you will need - at very first boot after restore - start in Active directory restore mode and perform an authoritative restore. If it was an additional DC you'll need a non-authoritative restore. For details see the docs on TechNet (Link above)
