How to recover any VM when vCenter is down

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I use vmProtect 8 as virtual appliance and backed up some VMs from vCenter Cluster and also made backups of the vCenter vitual appliance itselfs. Now the vCenter crashes and I tried to restore the vCenter. This is not possible, because vmProtect wants to restore the VM to the vCenter Cluster, which is not running. So I connected one ESXi host to vmProtect, but as backup Destination I could only select the (not running) vCenter.

How to restore VM backed up from vCenter Cluster to an other ESXi host?

Here is the protocol of the restore job:

Hi Ingo,

Assuming that 172.20.1.120 is the IP address of your ESXi host where you want to recover the vCenter appliance to - the error message indicates general unavailability of this IP from the Acronis appliance - you should first of all check whether the appliance is connected to proper virtual network (for example if it was connected to dvSwitch managed by vCenter then reconnect it to standard vSwitch). Generally speaking the proper way to recover vCenter is to register the individual host under Configure->ESXi hosts in web console of Acronis Backup for VMware (remove the old vCenter from there first of course) and proceed with the recovery.

Thank you.
