portmapper 111 being used

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Just downloaded the tiral. Trying to install as Windows agent to my existing backup server. As soon as I run setup, I got error saying that "port 111 is busy or being used". Then, i found out that Arcserve backup v.12.5 is also using port 111 as well. I can't turn off arcserve because it is my disk to tape backup. Is there any solution for this?

By the way, I've installed as appliance for testing purpose but I prefer to use Windows agent because my backups are going to store on this backup server local disk. If I use appliance, I have to store accoss the network.

Thanks,
Aldous

Hi Aldous,

The 111 port (tcp/udp) is required for NFS server component which is installed with Acronis vmProtect Windows Agent. I assume that Arcserve is also using the NFS server for some purposes which generates the conflict. Due to specifics of NFS there physically cannot be 2 instances of NFS server on one machine and the 111 port therefore cannot be shared.

There are still a couple of workarounds which may work for you:

1) Temporarily disable Arcserve service which is responsible for NFS server. This should allow you to install Acronis vmProtect Windows Agent
2) After the installation is complete you will have to choose which NFS server to be active:
2a) You can permanently disable "Acronis NFS Server" service. As the result the following functionality will be unavailable in vmProtect: Run VM from Backup, Exchange Items recovery (mails and mailboxes), while the other features will work properly.
2b) You can permanently disable Arcserve NFS service and leave Acronis NFS Server service active, thus the Arcserve features dependent on NFS server service will not work any more.

NOTE: in order to start Acronis services successfully if you decide to go with 2a) solution you will have to remove the dependancy of Acronis vmProtect Managed Machine service on Acronis NFS Server service via registry editor (Start->Run->regedit). See the screen shot in the attachment.

Hope this helps!

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

Thanks. I'll think abuut it. In the worst case, I'll just use the appliance.
