vmProtect6 and LAN based backups

Thread needs solution

I have been running the vmProtect for only a few days and I am seeing in the logs the below:

Opening virtual disk '[datastore03_vm1] SBS2008/SBS2008-000002.vmdk' via network due to server license restrictions.

What does it mean by Server License Restrictions and why is the backup LAN based?

I have a single ESXi 5.0 host where I have 3 VM's running SBS 2008, Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2. I have a Direct Attached Storage (DELL 3200 ) connected to the host using 6GBps SAS cables (multipathing is in place). This is not the MD3200i which means is not iSCSI.

I have a RAID 10 with the 8 local disks that exist on the physical server and I created a datastore on the local RAID array where the vmProtect Appliance is installed and on the same datastore I have the extra drive that i created within the vmProtect appliance to store the backups. Based on the user guide page 13, shouldn't the backups be LAN-free?

Thanks in advance

Hello Kojak,

Thank you for posting and welcome to the forum.

This message indicates that your ESXi does not have a license for the feature called Hot-Pluggable virtual HW. The disks cannot be attached to the appliance and are backed up through the network.

Please take a look at this screenshot where this option can be found:

Let me know if you have additional questions please.

Thank you.
