Allow users to recover deleted files
Hello,
I'm currently testing Acronis 12.5 Cyber backup for our small department.
I would like to give the users read only access to the backups of there own machine for restoring accidentally deleted files.
If I'm correct, I'cant grant access through the management console since restricting the access to the recovery panel does does not work.
As the backup archives (tibx) are stored on central NAS, I could grant read-only access to the backup archive. But, If the archive is opened and browsed via the windows explorer (which works well), I could browse and read all backuped files regardless of the original access permissions. This is not what I want, as sometimes the computers are used by multiple users and I would'nt allow one user to read all the files in the backup.
How could I grant my colleagues access to the backup archives while respecting the original file permissions?
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Ralf Becker

thank you. Your suggestion seems to be similar to our setup, but doesn’t address my problem.
On our central NAS I have created a separated folder for the backup (TIBX-Container) of each machine. I could manage the access rights to these folders and the archives inside individually, that is not the problem.
The problem is that while browsing a tibx-container in the windows explorer, every user who has read access to the tibx-container, has access to all files in the container, regardless of the windows permissions. So the question is: How could I control the file permissions or could ensure that the file permissions are respected while browsing the tibx-container?
If this does not work: Is there another way to give users of Acronis Backup the right to restore there own files?
Or do I have the wrong understanding of Acronics and the Software is not intended for recovery of individual files?

Hello Ralf!
I think the suggestion is like the structure below. I was planning to suggest this earlier, but wasn't sure if there are other ways to achieve it, or whether TrueImage would be a better fit. In any case you'll need a specification of what's considered private/public and configure your plans accordingly, which I assume you have since that's how file permissions were set anyway.
Suggested structure:
- Backup plans:
- Backup PC1 user agnostic data
- Backup PC1 user1 private data
- Backup PC1 user2 private data
- Backup PC2 user agnostic data
- Backup PC2 user1 private data
- Backup PC2 user3 private data
- Locations:
- Public backups
- PC1 public archive
- PC2 public archive
- User1 private backups
- PC1 private archive
- PC2 private archive
- User2 private backups
- PC1 private archive
- User3 private backups
- PC2 private archive
- Public backups
Or do I have the wrong understanding of Acronics and the Software is not intended for recovery of individual files?
Sure it is, I often restore lost or deleted files from whole machine backups, but at our place multiuser computers can't store personal info, and users don't have the autonomy to restore themselves, they have to request from IT.
Also, can you share some more info about your environment? Like why some data is private. Is it personal? Don't need to know? Shouldn't know? I'm asking, because I have worked at small, medium and relatively big companies, but neither of them had anything similar.
