Restoring complete VM backup as new machine fails with Invalid configuration for device '0'

Thread needs solution

I'm using Acronis backup 12.5 Build 14330 on an ESXi Sever 6.7 Update 2.

Backups seem to work fine so far.

But when I want to restore a virtual machine (Linux) completely to a new virtual machine, Acronis fails while creating the new virtual machine.

Error is:

Command has failed. Command=Recovering a virtual machine; tenantID=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 Invalid configuration for device '0'.

Browsing the Acronis KB I can find the following article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/63373

They say its a flaw in the product and will be fixed someday.

That's not really satisfying. Restoring is in my opinnion a really basic feature for a backup software.

Does anyone know if this problem can be avoided somehow. The restoring workaround is not really handy, as far as I can see.

@ the acronis officials: is there a plan, when this issue will be fixed? And by the way.. when do you plan to support ESXi 6.7 host configuration. It's missing for so long now.

best regards
ulf

Hello Tore,

welcome to Acronis forums!

We recommend that you follow the KB article in the above post which contains a working solution to boot a new empty VM with Acronis bootable media.

The fix for the mentioned issue is planned to be released with the next software update, however, we can't guarantee an exact date.

Hello;

@acronis I really can't believe it. I just found out. I'm really surprised. I am using ESXI 6.7 and cannot go back from backup. I would recommend Acronis to anyone, but I was worried. This issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible. I get the same mistakes. Bootable media was not the solution. something is going wrong. I need to run my backup as soon as possible.

Hello Serkan,

welcome to Acronis forums!

We regret to know that you've also suffered from this issue.

I should assure you that the resolution is in the progress.

What is going wrong when you boot the target VM from the bootable media?

Hello Maria;

I was able to load it with bootable media. Finally, my backup worked.

My first problem was to create a virtual machine with the same disk and features. When I tried to load this machine with bootable media (vm), the system did not boot. I've tried many times.

With Acronis, I created a replica of my problematic machine. Then I loaded my backup with bootable media and my machine turned on. Thank goodness it works.

I say it again. please resolve this issue as soon as possible.

The ABR-231376 issue has now been fixed. The fix should be available with the next software update release. If you need this fix urgently, please contact Acronis Support Team and request the fix.

Hello Maria,

is there any release date for the new Backup Appliance with this fix included?

IT's been 2 weeks from your statement that ABR-231376 has been fixed, but there is no new appliance download available.

With best regards,

Christian.

Hello Michael,

thank you for posting in this thread!

Any news about the release of the Update? The release should be in March (http://dl.managed-protection.com/u/baas/rn/9.0/en-US/AcronisCyberCloud_…)

Yes, the fix for ABR-231376 has already been released for Acronis Cyber Cloud 9.0 and is going to be released for Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 with the next update
