Trying to use simple file names

Thread needs solution

Hello,

First time user and poster here. Please be kind.

When I backup my servers to my save location, Acronis names the file folder with a 64 character "name". When I go to recover a file, I can't find a way to directly correlate that long folder name with the name of the computers on our network. Is there a way to do this?

For example if I want to recover a computer named "opserver", I look in the folder where my Acronis backups are and they aren't stored in a folder called "opserver", they are stored in folders called "xxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx"

How can I find which computer is associated with its 64 character name?

Thanks very much for any help!

Hello Gary!

Edit backup plan > Backup file name > Possible placeholder variables are shown below

You are likely interested in [Machine Name], which will make the backup name include for example "opserver". This name won't change though if you happen to rename your computer. It will still include only the name it had when the archive was created. If this is a deduplicated location this also won't affact the folder naming within the vault. You don't really need and should muck around those folders anyway.

It also won't help with your existing backups. If you can't delete them you can correlate which backup is which by looking in the database (if using SQL Server) acronis_vault_manager > Archives table. Name or Displayname is the one you can see on the management console, Resource name or Agent name will contain the computername.
