Backing up Outlook data file
Hello - I am trying to back up a .pst Outlook data file that is sitting on my local drive. I have set up a back up for the specific file. It is about 5GB. The back up finishes in seconds and the data to recover is less then 1MB. Clearly something is wrong. Has anyone else experienced this - or does anyone have any advice. Thanks. Gareth

What is the exact location of the *.pst file; sometimes Windows decides to place them in the OneDrive directory, and if you have files on demand active this may be causing the problem.

I checked - PST is not on the OneDrive.
I think the backup is failing because there is a lock on the file - but no error is given. I tried copying the file but got a message that something had a lock on it. Outlook was not running. I paused virus checking and turned off Outlook indexing. I was then able to copy the file. Did the back-up again and this time it ran as expected, taking about 5 mins for full back up and the back-up file size matched the original.
Which begs the question - how does anyone ever manage to keep pst file backed up. I just want my back up to run once a week in background. Outlook is pretty much always open, virus checking is always running as is indexing.
