Recovery has completed with errors - but no details and no files

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I just tried to recover some files, but it failed with the subject message. no other details at all, no help, no link to a log or an error code - nothing. Not very helpful!

A quick search of the forum and I found the MVP tool, and I found the log for the attempted restore; I can't attach it, so quoted below:

Can anyone help work out why the files wont restore, please?

Please ensure that you are using the new MVP Assistant log viewer tool, and not the older MVP Log Viewer as that doesn't know how to handle the new logs used by ATI 2020 and later versions.

As you are restoring from a TIBX file ("Z:\\Data Backup\\Data Backup.tibx") then you need to be looking at the Backup Worker log for this action.  I am not sure which log you have posted the extract from in your post above but it doesn't hold any useful information in the section copied.

There is an issue with using File Upload in the forums which has been ongoing for around a week now without anyone at Acronis taking notice of the complaints about it or fixing it!

In the interim, if you wish to zip the log file or the the whole Backup Worker folder (to preserve the original file names for the log files) then share this via a cloud service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc, then just provide a link either in the forum topic here or else send me a private message with a link.

Hi Steve - thanks for the reply.

So, I was using "MVP Assistant For Acronis True Image 1.0.1", and was in the Log Viewer section, and looking at  backup worker (I think). Do I need to do something different? There are quite a few logs in there, so I may have just selected the wrong one - although I thought that seemed to cover the failed restore I was doing.

I'll try and zip everything in the folder and ping it to you in a PM.

In  the mean time, I ran a full full all version validation, and that seems to have come back OK with no errors.

Tony, thanks for the link to the log files.  I am seeing lots of successful backups, validation and browsing in the logs but then am seeing 2 failed restore operations, all on 6th November at 22:05 and 22:09 and a failed validation at 22:35 for your "Z:\\Data Backup\\Data Backup.tibx" backup archive.

Looking at the failed restore operations, the first log entry seems to suggest that you are attempting to restore data from the archive to the same drive as where the archive is stored?

This then looks to cause the application to fail with a series of Registry dump errors!

The same looks to be the case for the second failed restore operation.

I would suggest that you test doing a restore to a different location, ideally to a different drive than the source drive for the backup image.

Thanks Steve - thats all entirely correct. I'll try a restore to somewhere else and let you know if that works.

Is that a common problem? I would have thought that the restore should be able to restore to the original location without issue...?

You should be able to restore to the original location so this error may indicate that ATI has an issue with handling the file path for the restore "3TB-WD-1/PoolPart.3630128d-5eb3-49fa-8170-fd9254141351/Music To Be Sorted/Cocksy Ripped" or there is something else involved here?

If restore to another location is working correctly then I would recommend opening a support ticket direct with Acronis to let them investigate this issue.

Hi Steve,

I was able to restore to another location, so I'll raise a ticket and see if they can work out what happened there. This is the first time I've tried, and had issues restoring from an Acronis backup, so its not a good sign / indicator for me...!

Sorry if this isn't the place to post this, but I've just had the same happen to me restoring program files & program files(X86) from an Acronis cloud backup to my laptop after I've had to do a clean install of windows 11, no idea where to find the log files etc mentioned above, so if anyone can help it would be appreciated

Download a copy of the MVP Assistant log viewer tool and use this to look at the logs to see if they show any issues during the operation process?

The latest version of the new log viewer tool is at the link below.
MVP Assistant - New 2.0 with Rescue Media Builder (New Version 2.5.2)

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) or using Cloning then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.

The Schedule2 log contains information related to scheduled task but is one of the more difficult logs to read / work through.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.
