Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office build 39615 Won't Install on Windows 7

Thread needs solution

I have True Image 2021 build 30216 installed on a Windows 7 32 bit system. I tried to update to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office through the GUI. It wouldn't install because Windows Security Extensions were missing. I followed the instructions and downloaded the two Security Extensions from the the Windows Catalog. When I tried to install them, Microsoft said they were already installed.

Probably not a great consolation Paul... I have done one successful upgrade of ATI 2021 Premium on one of my Windows 10 64-bit VMware VM's and this was completed without issue, retaining my existing Protection (turned off permanently) choice but resetting all the Services to be running in the background again!

First impression is that I see zero differences between ACPHO and ATI 2021 - there are no options on install / upgrade to allow users to elect not to install the protection features - the background services for these still run regardless of being turned off etc!  Plus there are no 'Standard' (perpetual) licenses for ACPHO and the 'Essential' subscription is a waste of money as far as I am concerned!

I have a Windows 7 32-bit old P4 system but am intending on keeping it on ATI 2018 which works and does all that PC needs!

I am pretty sure that there will never be any more perpetual licenses from Acronis. I understand and respect that some still want it, but it is a waste of time waiting for them to come back since they simply won´t come back.

I edit video and was a reseller when Adobe ditched all perpetual licenses and went 100% subscription with Adobe Creative Cloud. So many complaints, so many endless threads that wanted the perpetual license back. Fast forward to now and nothing has changed. Rumors say that Microsoft Office 2019 is the last version that will be aviable as a perpetual license.

Subscription for lot´s of software is here and it is here to stay. It has proven to be a good move for the companies in the long run. Constant cashflow for the companies, etc.

I don´t say that i love it either, but to keep sane, just let go of it. That era is over, it´s history, it´s as dead as dead.

I have never seen any company that has moved from perpetual to subscription changed their mind and bring perpetual licenses again. I may be wrong.

Time will tell.

Roger, fully understand your points above but don't want to hijack Paul's topic with further discussion about the demise of perpetual licenses!

Paul, back to the original point, I have a VM running Windows 7.1 x64, and if I get a chance I will see if I can get it to install.

Ian

Thank you, Ian. I've got a couple of Windows 7 PC's, one x86 and one x64, and I have exactly the same problem as the Paul the OP; both installs fail to upgrade from within the GUI; additionally, I have downloaded the full installer for new build no 39615 and run it, but the results are the same. Any help appreciated.

Paul, it looks as if you have to have bought the actual Windows 7 Extended Security Updates as well as installing the two specific updates listed in KB 69302: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office: required security updates for Windows 7

The ACPHO User Guide: Supported operating systems has the following statement:

To use Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1, you will need the following security updates from Microsoft: KB4474419, KB4490628, and Windows Extended Security Updates (ESU). See https://kb.acronis.com/content/69302.

The key words seem to be "KB4474419, KB4490628, and Windows Extended Security Updates (ESU)".

This seems to be in contradiction with KB 69302 which states:

Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office supports Windows 7, provided that the necessary security updates are installed. These updates are provided as a part of Windows 7 Extended Security Update (ESU).

Solution

Please install the following security updates on your Windows 7 system. They are required for the proper functioning of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office security components.

The above 'Solution' appears to be incomplete as it is obviously not sufficient to just install the two listed security updates - users also need to purchase and install the Win 7 ESU as well!

I downloaded KB4474419 and KB4490628 then tried to install only to be told that they are both already installed!

Trying to install ACPHO with just these updates gives the error as shown in the YouTube video captured below:

Thanks for that Steve. Am I correct that it takes $119 to purchase the Windows 7 ESU? Ouch!

I guess not too many people will get it to install on Windows 7.

Exactly, an example of what happens when support cycles end for old products.

Paul, don't know the price for the ESU but definitely won't be buying it nor putting ACPHO on any version of Windows except 10!  Would guess that Acronis are not really expecting very many users to do this either!

Sorry that I am late in getting back to this Topic. I had the same experience when trying to install on fully patched Windows 7.1 Pro x64 virtual machine.

Ian

Ditto to Ian, and it looks as if only the genuine Windows 7 ESU would allow this to work not the bypass hack suggested above - which is not worth the effort or the risk of it breaking later etc!

Windows 7 is now 20 months past its end of support. If you don't want to abandon Windows 7, why not just stick with ATI 2020 or earlier.

Acronis' direction is to provide a level of protection to your data, yet Windows 7 users will forever be exposed to security threats by not updating.

I have no objection to staying with Windows 7; I just don't think it is reasonable to expect Acronis to be backwards compatible forever. How about Windows XP? Windows 3.1?

successfully installed the two
updates KB4490628 and KB4474419 as
per guide, but the problem persists.

Hello Everyone,

we're working on making a next update of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office compatible with Windows 7 without the need to install the ESU update. The update 1 is expected to be released soon.

Much appreciated, Ekaterina, I look forward to the update. I use Acronis precisely to look after a couple of Windows 7 PCs I cannot rebuild from scratch, and which run legacy software that won't run on Windows 10, so your continued support in terms of backward compatibility is very valuable to me.

Great!

Thanks
