ATI 2021 Backup with boot medium does not perform validation!

Thread needs solution

Hi folks,

I've just find out, that ATI 2021 boot medium backup does not perform validation, although it was selected within the options! This behaviour occurs with boot medium (Win-PE and linux based).
In ATI2016 validation (when selected) runs fine immediately after backup has finished.

Support has confirmed my findings.
Support recommends:
When validation with boot media is needed, validation can be performed, by using the recovery option!

That means, user has to do at least two actions to validate a backup archive.

Best regards from Germany

Rainer, to my knowledge this has been a known issue for several years and Acronis have shown no interest in resolving it.  As ATI 2021 is out of support, you would need to upgrade to a subscription for ACPHO and confirm that it still happens there plus hope that Acronis might be interested in fixing it...

Validation does not guarantee anything more than that the backup .tib or .tibx file remains unchanged from the time it was written to disk or media.  It only recalculates checksum values for each block of the image file and compares these with the values embedded in the file.  If all match then the file is 'valid' but doesn't tell you whether there were any corrupt or malware files etc within the content!

If I want to run a validation against a backup taken with the rescue medium, I will often just run it under Windows while doing something else.

Hello Bruno,

thx for your hint. However in case of a defect Windows system you are in need of validation with the rescue medium.

Hallo Steve,

thx for your feedback.

Currently I am in contact with the support in this regard. For some time support requests some try and error actions without any success. Now they request a trial installation of the most current subscription version ACPHO to report the outcome. I expect, that support guys have to know, whether ACPHO solves my issue or not. Why now this next action? It seems to become a never ending story. Therefore I'll stop now any further actions.

Best regards

Rainer, a question for you... if you have a defective Windows system, why are you creating an offline backup? Or, are you only interested in running a validation alone from the rescue medium without doing a backup.

On another point... when you use the Quote method of responding, you can click at the bottom of the quote box to see the red insertion indicator so that your response is outside of the quote box. Make it easier to read that way.

Hello Bruno,

thx for your comment. Hopefully my response is readable better.

If I have a defective Windows system (or at least windows is not bootable) I prefer fundamentally a backup (and validation) of all my HDDs including the system drive by using the ATI bootable media. In addition the system drive can have user data stored in the users folders. There are apps which are using these folders. So I am able to have these data at the most current level.

My issue: In ATI 2016 it was possible to perform an offline backup and validation within the same run. That doesn't work in ATI2021.

You are right, a workaraound could be, doing validation within windows. Or using recovery option within the media boot and perform validation by using a right mouse click.
