Backup and restore Linux pc

Thread needs solution

I just built a Linux Mint workstation and I want to use Acronis True Image Home to backup and restore the hard drive. I think I can boot the flash drive and create a backup but I don't know if the restore would work. I can't find any information on a Linux workstation. Has anyone done this?

Bill, I have used ATI to backup & restore Ubuntu laptops a number of times in the past but these were older PC's using legacy / MBR boot and using the Linux based Acronis rescue media.

I can only suggest creating Acronis rescue media and testing booting this on your Linux PC, making sure you use the same BIOS boot mode as Mint uses (to avoid any migration by Acronis from MBR to GPT).

The main issues that you are likely to see is if you have any NVMe type drives that use RAID mode for the SATA controller where the Linux rescue media has very limited support.

I'm just using a Dell Optiplex, probably 2005 or so, and no RAID involved. I think what I'll do is just try to clone the disk to another of the same size and see what happens. I used the bootable media, which I believe to be Linux, to create the backup, but I didn't do a sector by sector backup. At the moment I don't have anything important on the machine so I can play with it a little. Thanks for the advice.
