Backups Failing Only to Complete After Pressing Retry

Thread needs solution

Last week I discovered that my automatic backups, which have been running perfectly for months, had been failing. Upon investigating I found the attached message although initially it referred to a file named bookmarks.json. Once I pressed RETRY the backup ran to completion. Up to this point I had not made any configuration changes in the OS or ATI 2021 and the backups had been working flawlessly.  All subsequent executions produced the same error so I added an exception for this file and then the same thing happened only on the file named in the attached photo. Just like before the backup ran to completion after pressing RETRY. So, I upgraded from ATI 2021 to Cyber Protect Home Office hoping that would solve the issue. It did not and the issue still exists. At this point I can no longer depend on the backups running to completion without manual intervention.

Bob, there are known issues with any backup tasks that are working with OneDrive files and folders, especially if you have Files on Demand enabled for OneDrive.  This is primarily because OneDrive uses reparse points to store the location of files not physically present on the drive and Acronis cannot process those reparse points!

Thanks for your response Steve but I have been using ATI to backup all files stored locally on my system, including the ones stored in OneDrive that happen to be local, for a long time. The last successful unattended backup happened on 10/08 and I didn't notice the failures until 10/13. Up until 10/08 everything worked fine.

Bob, problems between Acronis and OneDrive (with Files on Demand) go back to ATI 2018 and continue to today.  I would suggest checking your OneDrive settings to see if you are using On Demand or not?  Otherwise, it is possible that OneDrive is accessing files at the same time that Acronis is trying to do the same and this is causing a conflict.

It may be possible to suspend or stop OneDrive during a backup using a Pre Command - see forum topic here where this has been discussed recently with another user (for a different application).

Once again Steve I appreciate you attempting to help but it is premature to jump to that conclusion without any investigation.

I'm a very long time ATI user and I adopted OneDrive soon after it was released. I do have On Demand set and it has been that way ever since that option was available. On 10/08 my backup worked perfectly and on 10/09 it didn't and I did not change a thing between those two dates. In addition to posting here, I opened a trouble ticket with Acronis and included the System Report so hopefully that'll give them insight into what is happening.
