Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive - True Image 2021

Thread needs solution

I am having this problem which seems to render my backups useless.

The backup of a complete drive has been successfully validated.

When I try to mount a backup, it produces the error message in the title. There is no other action I can take except clicking the ok button in the corner. The attempted mount is not recorded by Windows 10 (21H2) as a disk without a drive letter, so I can't manually assign one.

Finally, clicking right and attempting to traverse the file system on the backup yields "This folder is empty" even on the root.

And finally also, I first encountered this problem 2 weeks after my support ran out!

I've used True Image for nearly 10 years but if I don't get a solution shortly I will need to change to another backup solution.

Ben, welcome to these public User Forums.

What type of backup image are you wanting to mount here?  Only a Disks & Partitions backup can be mounted - a Files & Folders backup will always give this error as does not contain a partition!

Are you able to double-click on the backup image and open it in Explorer to navigate through the contents?

Note: ATI requires to be run using Administrator to work correctly.

I have a backup which is a disk image.

I am clicking right on the shell extension in Windows Explorer which has two options: Mount and Validate.

Clicking the Mount option and following the dialogue produces this error.

When I click on the backup image in Explorer, it tells me that the filesystem root is empty.

Clicking right on the Acronis shell extension in Windows Explorer produces the problem.

Opening the backup in explorer produces a backup with an empty root folder.

Trying to use the Windows Shell Extension. Theres an ATI item with Mount and Validate options. The Mount option is where I encountered the problem

No, it presents as empty.

So none of these operations directly use the ATI UI. ATI is installed as administrator IIRC. Is there a way of checking whether this is the problem?

Ben, please try doing a Repair Install of ATI 2021 using the latest new build released recently.

KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - has details.
