Clone Disk gets Stuck - Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Essentials
Hello all,
Purchased "Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Essentials" for the purpose of cloning my existing HDD (1TB) to an SSD (1TB)
Installed the application. System re-started. Clone disk just gets stuck after selecting source disk. On clicking Next, an image of a spinning timer is shown and thats it. Nothing happens after that.
Turned off all Acronis services , re-started the system and then tried again. Always gets stuck at the same place.
The new SSD has been initialized to MBR and Basic disk. It is shown as online. The existing HDD is also MBR. Both devices have exactly the same capacity. Only 50% of source disk is occupied. Lots of free space available.
Tried System cleanup. This tool also gets stuck. Tried launching in admin mode. Same results. Nothing happens after the spinning timer image is shown.
On contacting the support, the executive provides workarounds but not solutions!
Another surprise, is the boot image downloaded from Acronis website and loaded onto a USB stick via Rufus/Etcher also does not work. The system does not boot via this USB. But the same USB stick using some other image of linus boots.
VERY DISAPPOINTED with this new version and the unwanted overloaded protection features, excess resources consumed on the computer and over all slowing down of system.
WASTED my money.
Looks like there is no solution to this PRODUCT DEFECT other than silly workarounds.

Ravi, welcome to these public User Forums.
Your problem description tells me that you are attempting to perform the clone from within Windows which can always be problematic. This is because this method will always require a restart of the system to continue, and that restart then defaults to using a very small Linux kernel OS distribution to launch the Acronis recovery / clone environment.
That Linux environment has a number of known limitations that can come into play!
KB 46250: Acronis Linux-based Bootable Media: Troubleshooting USB HID Devices Detection Issues
KB 45330: Acronis Bootable Media Does Not Detect HDD, RAID or NIC
KB 45331: Acronis Bootable Media(Linux-based): Troubleshooting NIC Detection
The downloaded ISO images for creating rescue media also are Linux based and can give the same issues / limitations.
Within the Acronis application there is an integrated rescue media builder tool that is fully capable of creating all the media options including on DVD or USB media without the need to use tools like Rufus.
The recommended rescue media to use is the 'Simple' build option which will create custom Windows PE media using device drivers taken from the Windows Recovery Environment, and which then includes support for your installed hardware plus for BitLocker if used etc.

Hi Steve,
Thank you for your response. My requirement was very urgent and even after 8 hours of struggling with the software after purchase did not show any results. So, I requested for a refund and got the same. The software has been removed from my system completely.
As you had suggested, I did try the media builder option provided within the software, but that boot was not successful. It showed an error that disk is not bootable. I had disconnected all other disks except the HDD, new SSD and the USB drive which had the boot media. It was a failure.
So had to use a free software to get the job done. It worked fine, though it was slow to clone the entire HDD.
Please note I had checked for all aspects before starting the process.
1. Admin account login
2. Turn off Antivirus
3. Turn off Malware scanners
4. Disconnected all other drives (HDD and SSD) except the main Boot HDD (1TB) and the new SSD (1 TB)
The product was always stuck after selecting the source disk. It used to show clock symbol and that's it. Nothing happens after that.
There are no pirated software installations on the system. All licensed software only.
The cloning was an urgent requirement and had to be done during the weekend.

In order to help you can you please provide the case number?
Dear Daria Sorokina
I have removed the software completely from my system as a refund was provided. Based on my prior experience with Acronis 2014, I wanted to clone my HDD to SSD safely without issues. Hence purchased Acronis 2021. But to be honest, it did not work out of the box after installation. Multiple tools failed to respond... They just got stuck on a particular screen and nothing happens after that. Hence my urgent requirement was completed using a free cloning software. I have got my refund. Hence no further action required from your side. Thank you.
Regards

Thank you, Steve Smith for your detailed response.
However, I have received a refund and my requirement to clone has been completed using a free software.
