Mac backup failed due to unknown error

Thread solved

I'm on a new (Fall 2022) MacBook Pro and attempted my first backup of this computer last night.  I got an error message that the backup failed due to an unknown error, I'll past the log below.  If anyone can advise on how to interpret this log and resolve the error, I'd appreciate it.

John, welcome to these public User Forums.

Caveat: I am a Windows user with no direct experience of using ATI on any Mac.

From looking at your log information you seem to be hitting an issue caused by including Microsoft OneDrive content in the backup source, where you probably have Files on Demand enabled which Acronis cannot process because the files are not held locally on the disk drive but in the MS Cloud servers.

Try excluding all OneDrive data and retry the backup operation.

Steve,

Thanks again for the helpful suggestion - excluding OneDrive worked perfectly and I now have a successful backup.

Apple's Time Machine is indeed an important backup program. It allows Mac users to back up their vital files to a PC or a selected place such as an external drive regularly. However, it occasionally fails to perform, displaying error messages such as Time Machine improperly backing up data or becoming stuck when generating a backup. Unfortunately, after upgrading their Mac, numerous Mac customers have seen a Time Machine backup failure message. If you are one of the unfortunate users, here are a few troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue. Examine the file system on the external hard disc. You can get a Time Backup error if your external drive doesn't have enough storage capacity or is formatted incorrectly. As a result, ensure sure the external disc you're using is compatible with Mac OS X. Time Machine does not support the FAT / NTFS file systems. Examine the amount of free disc space on an external device. If the problem persists, check the available capacity on your external disc. The Time Machine should have adequate space to be backed up. If this isn't the case, delete any unnecessary files to make room for Time Machine backups. Lastly, examine your computer for garbage files and other undesirable data that might be creating issues. Occasionally system cache, junk files, and temp files prohibit a program from operating correctly. It's hard to identify the actual cause of the problem in these situations.
