Restore Archive
Hi!
I have this problem that I can't seem to get solved, and so far support has not been able to help.
I created a cloud based archive that includes 320 GB of family pictures. Acronis moves everything from the local disk into the cloud, and the archive can be accessed as a virtual drive through Windows Explorer.
Now, I switched from the machine I created the archive on (Windows desktop PC) to a new notebook and I would like to restore all of the files back to an external HDD, but on that notebook no drive shows up in Explorer.
How can I restore that archive now? The only option I see is to log into the cloud dashboard and restore from there, but every time I try to download anything, the download runs for a couple minutes and then fails.
Please help me - I need my files back!!
Thanks for any help!

Hi Steve,
thanks for your reply.
Yes, I have installed ACPHO on the new notebook. I can also create a new archive from there, which will then show as a drive in Windows Explorer, but that does not show or contain my old files.
I do not have access to the original desktop PC anymore as it stopped working properly, that's why I set up the notebook.
I can download fiels in smaller sized chunks through the web based console, but it's not even 1 GB before the download fails. Trying to recover every file of the whole archive would be very cumbersome that way.
I have already sent screenshots, HAR-files and copies of local folders to support, but so far they could not help me.
Thanks!

Thanks for the further information.
Unfortunately there has been numerous complaints in the forums about the issues with downloading backup data / archive data from the Acronis Cloud dashboard servers which is mainly due to there being no automatic resume for an interrupted download.
This doesn't apply to doing an actual Recovery from the Cloud which does allow resuming when interrupted, so is something that Acronis should be capable of fixing!
I don't use the Archive feature because have never had a need to do so plus have never liked or trusted a feature that removes my data out of my control and then deletes the original data! I would rather buy some extra storage drives and keep such data locally in a safe.
Acronis are working on a complete reworking of ACPHO which should go into Beta testing sometime in the next months in anticipation of an Autumn release, where this issue should be included in the changes AFAIK.
The only other option would be to ask Acronis to provide your data to you on either large capacity BlueRay discs or a pocket USB drive of sufficient capacity, i.e. a 500GB Passport drive!

The only possible solution would be to recover a recent backup of the 'dead' computer to a virtual machine, then download the files. However, this is a little bit complicated - and the PC would need to support virtualisation.

@Steve: Thanks,I will ask support if that's a possibilty
@Ian: I am not sure I have ever made a full backup of that machine as all I needed were the pictures that I thought were stored safely in that archive...
It baffles me how ACPHO offers the option of archiving files to the cloud, but then there is apparently no convenient option to restore the archive to a different machine later.

You would only need a backup of the system drive (if you had multiple drives on the computer).

Hi Ian,
I do not have any backups of that machine :(

So, here's a quick update.
This is what I was told by support the other day:
Hi!
since the PC the archive was originally created on is not accessible, the cloud is the only way to access the archived data.
Unfortunately, the folder is too large to download everything at once due to cloud limitations. So you will have to browse it and download chunks of 10GB until you have the entire contents of the folder.
Okay, I tried, but the thing is: every download almost always fails - so I am back stuck at my original problem I mentioned in the OP. I even went as far as trying to download in chunks of 20 files, which would only be a couple MB. Sometimes the download would work, while failing again with the next 20 files.
Downloading 10 GB like support told me is not even remotely possible.
Also, trying to download some 300 GB in steps of 20-50 MB is really cumbersome.
So, right now Acronis holds my data without being able to provide a safe way for me to retrieve it ever again. I will try to salvage any bit I can, but will probably miss out on a lot, and it will probably take weeks or months.
I have learned my lesson and will never trust any storage provider again.

The only other option is to ask Acronis whether there is any possibility of either getting FTP access to your cloud data or whether they can transfer it to one of their FTP servers that you could access, i.e. like those they use for support cases?
