Who is agent jenkins?

Thread needs solution

I am interested in finding out why error messages in the backup log (attached to email notification) refer to “c:\jenkins_agent” (example: Error 0x40007: Error occurred while opening the file. | line: 0xf35f747b3b21fad4 | file: c:\jenkins_agent\workspace\579\core\file\windows\winnt_dir.cpp:971). I find it disconcerting that a path is referenced that does not exist on my computer (since it specifically includes the c: drive) and that it seemingly includes a person's name (unless that is programming lingo). Moreover, in the Acronis knowledgebase a search for this name yields nothing (in this forum there are plenty of messages on the error). For clarity, I'm not interested in the cause or technical resolution of the error, I only want to know if jenkins makes any sense or is cause for concern. I’ve previously seen Acronis errors that refer to a similar path with the name Hudson. Thanks!

I wouldn't be worried about this.

Jenkins is a common build tool used to automate the building, testing, etc. of software.  Hudson was a previous version of Jenkins if I remember correctly.

The agent is something that sits on a server and runs commands on behalf of Jenkins during the build so that the load of builds can be spread around multiple servers.

What you're seeing is just left over from when Acronis built the final product you're running.

Link to the Jenkins homepage.

All references to either Jenkins or Hudson are intended for the Acronis developers only and should be ignored as do not contain any information that is much use to the users.

They both sound like butlers; I think the butler in Upstairs Downstairs was Hudson. Not sure about Jenkins

It probably makes some sort of sense to the software engineers

No, Acronis gave us all the Red Pill the other day and we are now inside The Matrix. Agent Smith is now retired due to a new antivirus solution that were forced into the Nebuchadnezzar. Agent Smith are now replaced with Agent Jenkins and Agent Hudson.

Ah, I knew there was one; thanks Bob.

Glad I could start the nostalgia conversation :-) Thanks for the technical reference to the build tool, I had a suspicion it was a leftover of something similar, but I learned something new.

It still would be nice and more user friendly to leave that garbage out of error messages because it is of no use to your average user and gives no indication how to resolve a potential problem. Moreover, this particular message is dubious because on one hand it warns of an error while on the other hand it confirms the Operation has succeeded, which one is it now? Such lack of discipline from professional outfits just annoys me, especially when I have to pay for a product. Thanks for listening, now back to our regular scheduled programming of Upstairs Downstairs :-)

IT IS CAUSING MY BACKUP TO FAIL... and I am supposed to ignore?

If you use the MVP Assistant to view your logs, turn off the Trace data either by the View->Show Trace menu or by double clicking the Trace indicator at the lower right portion of the window in the status bar. Then you needn't see them again.
