Acronis Disk Director messed up GRUB in Linux partition. Can't boot linux.
Hi, I am really not sure of how to configure linux and Disk Director so that they do not interfere with one another. What I did was very simple and ended up being a disaster.
1) Installed Debian linux with GRUB (the boot loader).
2) Activated Acronis boot loader in Disk Director.
3) Used Disk Director to do a reformat of a partition, which required a restart for the operation to complete.
4) Upon restart, Grub was trashed and would not start. Therefore I could not boot into any operating system.
5) had to use the Acronis bootable media disk (DVD) to find my windows partition and boot it.
6) Acronis Disk Director then completed the repartitioning operation after windows started.
7) Grub was still trashed and I could not get into Linux..
8) After messing with Grub for a while I just re installed linux and grub, while de activating Acronix OS selector.
9) All is fine now but I am afraid to use either the Disk Director or the OS Selector for anything lest I mess up Grub again.
So, what should I do in order to be able to use Acronis products without fear?
Thank You
Tom

Some versions of Linux are easier to get GRUB installed to the partition than others. The option (if it exists) may be hidden in advanced settings, for example. Many of the later Ubuntu versions I've tried don't install GRUB correctly to the partition when using the installer -- they require manually installing GRUB afterwards.
