ADD Ver 12. update 3270 on Win 10 not seeing WD Mybook 3 TB USB 3.0 drive.

The OS can detect the drive but ADD cannot see it.

I have successfully formatted and partitioned the drive however no success in getting the drive recognized.

Please help.

Hello, Kevin

Do you have a USB2.0 port on PC? Can the disk be detected if to connect it to the USB2.0 port? (just to localize the issue).

Best regards.

Thank you for getting back to me.

I have tried USB 2.0 / USB 3.0 on two computers in fact, both of which did not detect the WD my book usb 3.0, 3 TB drive.

Sorry for my english!

I have the same problem as you Kevin. My ADD 12 cannot see the new WD Passport 3TB drive.

I read in other forums, that there is a problem with the new 4k sectors on this big drives and ADD is not able to read this format.

Paragon Disk Manager will see the drive without problems and can fully handle it.

I can not belive that Acronis did not know anything about this problem.

I was an advocate for this software for many years. I will look into alternative solutions.

Yes, can confirm this error.  It doesn't matter if you use Windows 7 oder Windows 10 neither if you use an USB 2.0 or an USB 3.0 port.  The Acronis Support answered this is a 4k sectors problem.  If other software is able to handle this, with their experience Acronis should be able too !?

Test cases:

Win 7 64 home USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, didnt work with build 3270

Win 10 64 home USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 didnt work with build 3270

Using WD MYB USB 3.0, 3TB.

Unfortunately, disks with sector size which is not equal to 512 bytes are not supported. However, a feature request has been created (ticket ADD-2909).  Our development team is working on it.

Best regards.

I don't have a link handy but wasn't there already a feature request over a year ago for this very thing?  Seeing as how Acronis True Image can support this format and Disk Director can't is puzzling.  I would like to add that seagate drives with advance format ( i am assuming they use 4k sectors) because it' an 8tb external usb 3.0 drive can be seen in DD.  So can the brand new 8tb My Book from WD which is pretty spankin new but both of these huge drives can be seen by DD.  I cannot imagine them being 521 byte drive.  Now one thing that might shed some light as to why maybe idk but I am guessing they emulate 512e which to the os looks to be 512 byte.  The older style 3 and 4 tb hard drives all run through a controller of some kind which might be not allowing DD to see the actual disk sector size and it probably assumes it is 4k sector and just don't play. All this is speculation on my part as I do not quite understand this all anyways.  I just want my usb 3.0 drives that can be seen in True Image to be seen in DD.

Thank you all for the effort, feedback and comments.

There are competitive options that solve the problem transparently.

I still own ADD so, if a fix is available then I will consider using it.
