Cant see external usb drive in Acronis DDV10

Thread needs solution

I found 1 of my external usb drives which is working well was visible in the other which does not show up on My Computer was not.

A dealer has sold me a defective drive he says is not showing up on My Computer because it is not formatted. As he said,
This drive can however be seen on Control Panel>AdmintoolsComputerManagement>DiskManagement>storage>

He says I must format it and all will be fine.

The disk does not show up on Acronis DD V 10 (I have windows Vista).
I have checked that Acronis disk Director is not at fault because it is showing

Why can I not see a particular external USB drive? Can Acronis partition it? What the is a "dead disk"? Does it mean the connection wires from the usb piece to the physical memory are burnt out? How to check? If they are not burnt out, well he said he does low level formatting first before NTFS. Does anyone have any idea about this? Replies will be gratefully appreciated

Does the drive show up normally if you connect it to a different computer?

Does the drive show up if you boot to the DD CD?

DD can have problems seeing some USB drives, though these drives will still usually show up in Disk Management and other parts of Windows normally.

Can you post a screenshot of what Disk Management shows when the problem drive is connected?

Note that a parition that's not assigned a drive letter will also not show up in My Computer. Don't do any formatting until you've determined the problem because it will very likely destroy the data on the drive.

I keep trying to assign a drive letter but it does not register. After formatting and creating the partition, which is most of the disk 62.75Gb out of 64, i cant see the drive on my computer. The device shows up on windows XP computers

Are you using the latest build of DD 10 (2288)?

A screenshot of what Disk Management shows for the drive might be helpful.
