DD11 Disk Layout

Thread needs solution

I do not understand the DD11 Disk Layout system.

If one chooses a disk layout, does this mean that DD11 changes the disk setup to match that disk layout without having to do anything else in DD11, even to committing the changes ?

I tried this under Windows 7 but DD11 would not allow me to change the layout to match another OS layout, once I was not in that other OS. So what is the purpose of having a disk layout ? All one ever wants to see is the current state of the disks and manipulate that. It seems the entire Disk Layout system is just a confusing waste of time. Can anybody explain it to me ?

Disk Layout allows you to see and change the drive letter assignments for the selected OS. For example, if you have Vista and Windows 7 on the computer, you could run DD and select Vista's layout. It would show the assignments as per Vista even if booted into Windows 7 or booted to the DD CD. It's especially handy to fix drive letter issues that may arise when multi-booting.

But if I switch the disk layout it does not show me different active/inactive or hidden/unhidden partitions than what currently exists. Furthermore it does not show me the drive letter assignments for another layout at all AFAICS.

I have a layout for Vista where my Windows 7 partitition is hidden and my Windows Vista parttition is C: . In Windows 7 my Windows Vista partition is hidden and my Windows 7 partitition is C: . When I switch between layouts under Windows Vista it most certainly does not reflect this drive letter assignment at all.

Then it may not be working correctly (possibly the hidden partitions are throwing it). Does it behave any differently if you boot to the DD CD and try it?
