Disk Director 10 and Win7 64 bit
Hi,
I know - I should have done more research before I did this. But what can you say ... ? :(
I installed Disk Director 10 on a Win7 64bit laptop. Since a few minutes prior to that True Image refused to work and told me that it wasn't compatible with Win7, I thought DD would do the same and would not let me install or use it if there was a potential risk.
I wanted to copy 3 partitions of my new laptop to a SSD which should then replace the internal HDD of the new laptop. DD let me set this up and then demanded a restart in order to do the copying. The Win7 startup screen appeared ... and this is where the whole thing seemed to get stuck. I let it stay this way for a few minutes and then made a hard reset. After this Win7 asked to be started in that automatic repair mode. It did some "repairing" or whatever that was. When trying to reboot then, it got stuck again at same point as before.
Any ideas how to get Win7 back to start again?
Regards,
Mac

Thanks very much for the response.
No, it was stuck at the semi-graphical Win7 screen saying something like "Windows 7 is starting", with the glowing Microsoft logo in the middle, right before it should start into desktop with the login screen.
Unfortunately by now one of my attempts to "repair" stuff somehow restored the OEM recovery on the hidden partition. I'm not even aware that I confirmed restoring that default recovery. But my data is lost. Not too much of a disaster anyway. Laptop was still quite new, so there was not much of my own data on it yet. Guess I'll just have to start over configuring my account. That's all.
But thanks again for the advice with autopart and all. Might come in handy again at some point.
Cheers,
Mac
