Dual Booting XP and Windows 7 and the System Restore Problem

Thread needs solution

When you update a windows xp machine to install windows 7, onto either a separate partition or separate disk, there is a problem with using system restore. When booting out of XP and into Win7 you will find all of your Win7 system restore points have been erased. This is because the system restore technology is different for xp and 7, xp thinks the win7 points are corrupt and deletes them. There is a MS registry fix for this but it doesnt work for everybody. In effect Xp must be hidden from 7 to make everything right. Does anyone know whether using BootOS of Director as a third party boot device fixes this.

Mike:

Yes - OS Selector is capable of hiding partitions and will fix the problem of Windows XP deleting Vista or Windows 7 Restore Points, provided that you set it up so that when booted to Windows 7 the Windows XP partition is hidden. Any boot manager that can be set up to hide and unhide partitions will accomplish this same goal.
