How to install a new os.

Thread needs solution

Is there any how to or anything to install a new OS? Found a couple things online but reading through them seems to contradict themselves and is very confusing.

Here is what I have. Win7 x64 Ultimate. Drive 0 is a 100mb partition, and a 230gb partition. Why Win7 uses a 100mb partition is beyond me but thats how it is.

What I would like to do is install winxp onto this drive but I want the partitions not to be seen from other OS. I know how to shrink the 230gb partition and add a new primary partition for XP but I am unclear as to what to do next.

I can get XP to install but it seems that it wipes or corrupts my win7 install afterwards. I understand that XP is going to install a new boot loader. So what is the method to get OSS back up and running. Boot from the repair media I created? Seems when I tried that and tried to boot Win7, it started but then just sat there and never booted.

I am thinking I am missing a setting or something. I have gotten it to work using the software BootIt but I think I would much rather use OSS.

If anyone has a walk through or something with settings I should use, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

When you install XP, make sure that the XP partition is set Active and that the Windows 7 partitions are hidden (hide both of them). This will allow XP to install its booting files on the XP partition.

You will need to reactivate OSS after XP is installed. The easiest way to do that is to make sure your DD CD includes the OSS programs. After XP is installed, boot to the DD CD and reactivate OSS. OSS should find the XP installation and add it to the menu.

If BootIt (I assume you're referring to BootIt NG) is currently installed, you will disable/replace it by installing OSS. If using the Unlimited Primary Partitions option, make sure to disable this option first so you don't lose access to any of the partitions.
