OS selector runs always same OS or does not find the other one

PLease help me... I have used Acronis disk director since my last computer, but now i have a new one with a 1 hard disk of 1TB, it came with windows 7 home premium preloaded, so I installed my acronis media (disk drive with OS selector 2011 version), but since the hdd is big enough and I need win XP for old stuff, i decided to install it on a partition of the 1TB HDD

It all went smooth, I installed Win XP on new partition and then reinstalled the acronis os selector from that OS... as i restarted my computer, the os selector find the Win 7 and XP OS system, but no matter what i choose to run, it always went to run the XP system...

Now I reinstalled win 7 from scratches but now win XP is no where to be found... so I went XP installation again and the same problem comes... I getting mad since I have wasted 3 days on this endless circle...

Please give me some help of how to do it to get it work... I already read owner manual but I dont know what is wrong :(

It sounds like you're not hiding the installed Windows partition when you install the new one. For example, if Windows 7 is installed already, do the following:

  • Install OSS and make sure it boots okay into Windows 7.
  • Deactivate OSS and select Windows 7 and the default OS.
  • Boot to the DD CD and set the Windows 7 partition (and the System Reserved partition, if used) as Hidden. Set the Windows XP partition as Active. Commit the changes.
  • Boot to the Windows XP CD and install it. Make sure to select the XP partition for the installation (it should be selected by default since the others are hidden).
  • After XP is installed, reinstall OSS or reactivate it. It should find the new XP installation and add it to the menu.

There are other ways to do this, but the above is the most fool-proof and what I recommend. Basically, when adding a new Windows OS, make sure any installed Windows partitions are hidden and the new one is set Active.
