Switch between XP Installations

Thread needs solution

Hallo,

I test the OS Selector as a part of the Acronis Disk Director Suite 10. I have a system with two primary partitions, both containing Windows XP Professional. I have installed the OS Selector ( test version ) in one of this XP Systems. After first start OS Selector recognized both XP Partitions, so I can now choose my boot partition at boot time, what is I wanted to test.

It works fine, buuuuut: one of the XP Operating Systems ( this one which was hidden and inactive while installing and starting OS Selector ) has incorrect partition properties. The boot partition is marked as active AND hidden. I can not uncheck the hidden check box. This is a really problem, because booting from such partition cause bad errors and ends always a BSD (Blue Screen of Death ). I’m sure, that the hidden property is not correct, but I can not uncheck it.

The other one XP System doesn’t have the erroneous property. Here the boot partition is marked as active and NOT hidden. This XP system can be started without any problems.

Pleas help. Are this only limitations of the test version ?

If I can boot both XP systems with OS Selector correctly, I am going to buy it.

Regards

The problem of OSS leaving a "found" booting OS partition hidden and not allowing you to change it is one that should have been fixed a long time ago. However, the solution is fairly simple.

You can post the BOOTWIZ.OSS file here and I'll fix it (instructions can be found here) or you can fix it yourself (instructions can be found here).

The problem is not a limitation of the trial version. One way to help avoid the problem in the future is to make sure all the OS partitions are visible when OSS is installed. Then, when OSS boots the first time, make sure the properties are correct for each OS before you boot into them.

Hallo MudCrab,

Thank you for the solution. Following your instructions I fixed my problem in 5 Minutes.
